mikey (321), farmington, Utah, USA May 8, 2008 Poured a nice clear amber/ruby color with a thin foamy head. The nose is nutty with chocolate, molasses and a bit of alcohol perfume. The taste starts with Molasses, brown sugar and pecans. spicy cocoa comes next with toasted grain and finishes with a nice hoppy pine finish. It’s 8.0% abv is nicly masked.
IrishBoy (2165), Bakersfield, California, USA Sep 29, 2008 12 oz bottles from State Liquor Store (SLC) and Douglas88. Nose of brown sugar, vanilla, caramel, and a background plum note; dark rusty red with a medium beige head; flavor has some coffee, caramel, nuts, and fruitiness. Finish is a very light bitterness and alcohol warmth. Ughsmash (3082), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bottled, thanks to Eric! Poured clear iced tea brown with a short-lived cap of white head. The aroma was toasty with caramel and brown sugar at the forefront.. touch of beet sugar and alcohol warmth on the back. The flavor opened with sour darker fruit skins that came out of nowhere.. aged, dry caramel carried the middle and really dried out the palate.. grainy brown sugar and leafy bitterness found the edges.. finished short, but warm and spicy, leaving peppery alcohol on the lips. Medium-bodied and fleeting on the palate. very dry.. some nice components in there, but it struck me as powerfully average overall. rustychiles (480), Mesa, Arizona, USA Sep 20, 2008 Pours a brown to reddish brown color with a small tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel and chocolate. Flavor is caramel, malt, toasted nuts, toffee. Thin and watery but still flavorful. Decent bock. Doppelganger (1206), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Sep 13, 2008 Bottle, from Douglas88. Thanks! Red/brown pour with a deep layer of rough tan bubbles, settling with a bunch of lacing. Dry caramel aroma, raisins, rustic wood, cinnamon. Chalky mineral flavor blended with a nice raw sugar sweetness, raw walnuts, some interesting viney notes along the edges. A bit hot and not as focused as a good German doppel, but a ton of flavor and a very respectable brew. lb4lb (1453), Austin, Texas, USA Sep 10, 2008 Bottles from dchmela and footbalm. Thanks guys!
Pours a nice dark clear reddish brown with a smallish beige head. Smell is metal and oxidation perhaps. Taste is chocolatey, toasty bread, and caramel with a light bitterness and a touch of alcohol. Tastes a lot better than it smells, I thought. Medium bodied with normal carbonation.
