COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our new oatmeal stout is based on a non-intentional, breakfast beer/Olympic twist. The Stout is enhanced with a high quality espresso that comes, no less, from the gang at Diesel Coffee in Davis Square, Somerville, MA. The brand we chose is called Intelligentsia Black Cat Espresso from South America. This decaf espresso’s hallmark is its supreme balance and wonderful sweetness. This plays into the high oatmeal/rye flakes for body and the sweet variety of crystal malts for balanced sweetness and all the while it doesn’t subtract from the aroma and taste of the espresso. At 4.4% ABV, why not have it for breakfast while you watch the USA go for the gold in the summer Olympics!

Cask@GBBF2012. Black colour, small white head. Aroma is fruity, roasted malts, ripe fruits and some mild coffeeish toasted notes. Flavour is rather similar. Ends with a quite rich ripe fruity way.

Cask @GBBF ’12. The pour’s deep brown with no head. The nose is sweet lactose, sugar, milk and light creamed coffee. The taste is tangy sweet berry, more lactose and light coffee. Very sweet, perhaps a mild infection? Medium/light body, soft carbonation. Overall, I don’t like my stouts overly sweet. Not a highlight for me...

Cask at GBBF 2012, London. Pours brown with a fine, bubbly white head. Mild tangy dark malt nose. Light tangy flavor, too, with some further dark malt character, light cocoa. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Light sweet finish with further, faint tang along with burnt grass and dark sugars. So so.
