YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA Mar 10, 2006 Thanks to the efforts of Rob (RooftopRogue) and ClarkW. Pours out jet black with little in the way of a head. Rich roasted coffee aroma with hints of anise, molasses, raisins, and a wisp of chocolate that carried over to the flavor. Rich and robust in the mouth with a warm, alcohol feel as you swallowed. Creamy and flavorful. Thanks, Guys!! RooftopRogue (423), Champaign, Illinois, USA Mar 7, 2006 Thanks to ClarkVV a few of us in Champaign, IL where able to taste this beer. This beer produces a serious aroma consisting of licorice, molasses, and alcohol. It was black in color and it failed to produce a head. This beer offers the palate a sweet licorice taste that fades to a bitter sweet flavor as the taste of alcohol appears. This beer fades smoothly leaving the taste of oatmeal lingering on the palate. It actually held its own fairly well on a night packed with the heavy hitters of the stout world. Philip (379), Illinois, USA Jan 16, 2006 Bottle courtesy of Rob (rooftoprogue). Poured on the night of Edward’s (brooklynboy) surprise tasting. I’m not sure what the last rater was thinking, but this is great stuff. Held its own against the likes of Yeti, Alesmith, Expedition, Southhamption Imperial, and about 20 other stouts rated above 3.95 on this site. A great example of a East Coast style. Lots of French Roast Coffee, a lush mouthfeel, raisan, notes of molasses, and full bodied. Great creamyness, possibly from oats? Reminded me a bit of an imperial Kalamazoo. Nice work to WatchCity. PrinceofNessus (221), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Sep 30, 2003 GABF 2003 - The beer is a dark opaque brown with a brown head. It's a bit too thin for an imperial stout, and the flavor is rather sickly-sticky-sweet for my tastes. goz (359), Chelmsford, Massachusetts, USA Mar 26, 2003 22oz bomber from the brewpub, bottled date 12/05/2002.
Pour is jet black, with a small dark brown head which quickly recedes and leaves almost no lace. Aroma is roasty, doughy, sweet, with some grape raisin hinting in the back. Flavor is a good punch of sweet chocolate cookie, hints of the grape and raisin, and ends with some good roasty character to it. Full body, slight touch of alcohol in the end, long lingering roastiness adds a good finish.
