3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap at Water Street Delafield. A legit Black IPA, very refreshing after punishing myself at Delafield Brewhaus. Deep brown-black body, steady foamy beige head. Minty chocolate chewiness. Really well done. Sandy brown chocolate tones. Rich but never overbearing. Solid example.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Black hole dark. Toasty hop aroma but hardly any malt. Cold coffee flavor and hoppy as all hell. This is very bitter. Maybe a bit too bitter. This could use a tad less hops and a lot more malt. A bit flat on the palate.

Had this one at the Wisconsin State Fair. It was a very nice complement with the deep fried cheese and deep fried Snickers I ate that day. My diet that day should make all Wisconsinites proud. Look out Mississippi - we want our title of fattest state back!

Draft at the brewpub. Served in a gigantic stein. Black indeed. Sticky head. Drinks like an ashy porter. There is a bit of a different hoppy finish but I wouldn’t call this an IPA and I’m becoming less and less a fan of this "Black IPA" craze. (#5143, 7/5/2013)

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap at Summerfest - Pours black with a thin tan head. Nose is roasty and dark with minimal hopping. Taste is the same...dry and not much hops. Thin and watery. Not that good.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2013 Tasted at Summerfest in Milwaukee. Black with a tan head. Nice smooth taste but not enough bite for my liking.

Draft. Poured black color with an average frothy light brown head that lasted with good lacing. Good toasted malt and hop aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Good toasted bittersweet flavor with a good bittersweet finish of medium duration. Good brew.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
At the brewpub on Water street. Rather chewy texture. Not very hoppy for an IPA and highly malty. Much more like a porter. Tasted pleasant but seemed a bit off style. Serving: Tap

On draught at the brewpub. I’m not a stickler for styles, but this was a problem: this was a good beer, nice roasted malt flavor, but it’s a porter not an IPA. There’s no real hop/IPA character to it. It’s a good beer, but I was in the mood for an IPA not a porter. That’s the only reason a style really matters to me is when I’m looking for something specific. Otherwise good.
