chokmah33 (102), Bremerton, Washington, USA Apr 27, 2008 Updated: Jun 19, 2008 Cloudy golden apperance. Perfumey, citrus hoops aroma along with herbs and whole wheat bread. Taste is yeasty with a smooth herbal back. Lemon zest, some white ale skunkiness. Bomb astringent texture and bitter hops finish that lasts for days.
Good variation on the IPA theme. It dosn’t rely on hops overload.
theisti (1034), Leawood, Kansas, USA Aug 8, 2008 Shaker pint on tap at the Brewpub in Port Townsend, Washington. This was 3 dollars at happy hour. Pour is hazy orange copper with a one inch off white head. Hop in nose is resiny and very full. Nice pine, citrus and a good blast of sweet biscuit maltiness as well. Nice nose. The taste starts out big with the hops, then drifts more towards the sweetness of the malt, and towards the end is edging on cloying. and start. Very grainy, almost woody. The taste is not as pronounced as I would have expected from the nose, but tasty. Decent medium palate. $3 is quite a value for a pint of IIPA! Angeloregon (1867), Portland, Oregon, USA Aug 1, 2008 On tap at Water Street Brewing in Port Townsend, WA--Poured a deep amber body with minuscule white head. Nose of immense piny and citrusy hops. Fruity and floral. Mouthfeel cloying sticky. Not my thing but ok. BrewDad (1645), Olympia, Washington, USA Mar 18, 2008 Taster - Water Street Brewery - Port Townsend, WA.
Aroma – Deep Hop aroma with a nice malt backing.
Appearance – Amber color, small head and clear.
Flavor – This was a great IPA. Deep hops with the right amount of bittering and fruit flavors.
Palate – Great Mouthfeel, good texture with a dry finish.
Overall – This was truly a great beer for the day with some full hops flavors. The beer was malty and had a great finish. Liked the flavor. This was PNW IPA.
after4ever (1710), Brier, Washington, USA Mar 1, 2008 Draft at the brewpub, carried to the table by the beer’s namesake herself. Pours medium amber with a bit of golden highlight to it, and a light creamy whitish head. Woody, slightly piney nose; not very forward or pronounced for a DIPA. Medium body, plenty of refreshing fizz. Mid-palate is surprisingly indistinct, and the finish wanders off into a big uproar of woody and resiny notes. Not sure why there isn’t more of a setup for the finish. The finish is definitely DIPA-worthy but out of balance given the lack of activity before then.
