Previously brewed at DuBocq (Nov 2013)

This traditional Belgian beer finds its origin in 1815 at the time of the battle of Waterloo. Its old fashioned brewing process from malt and hops finely selected gives it a strong, tasty and vigorous character. Delicious fragrance of fresh yeast outlined by scents of fruit. Light bitterness with a touch of caramel and roasted malt. Smooth beer with strong personality yet in harmonious balance.

Arrière-bouche banale. 3ème très faible, manque de personnalité. Arrière-bouche sans équilibre. La longueur ne démontre rien. La levure est d’une banalité désespérante. L’alcool ne supporte rien. La finale est négligeable. CONCLUSION : bière d’une banalité désespérante.

Piana spora trwala i kremowa. Kolor ciemnobrazowy, bardzo ciemny. Zapach pieczonych tostow z marmolada oraz moreli suszonej. W smaku piernikowo migdalowe. Super Double Dark Belgian Ale.

Drinking from a 75cl bottle. In the aroma alcohol, wood and fruit sweetness. The red brown, unclear beer has a good brownish head that disappears slowly. In the taste caramel, liquorice and hazelnut. Medium to low carbonated.

330ml bottle, poured into Kasteel chalice. A: Very dark mahogany, opaque, one fat finger head, very good retention and lacing. S: Raspberry, malt, molasses. T: Brown sugar, malt raspberry, molasses, hints of yeast and cork, booze well hidden. M: Smooth and crisp. Light body for the high abv, moderate carbonation. O: Fairly typical dark beer from the Du Boca line up, for some reason there seemed to be less going on than with lower strength beers from the same brewery, by no means a bad beer but unexciting.
