3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
330ml bottle (Hilpea Haukki, Helsinki)
6 Very rich sweet fruity aroma. A real fruit salad, but I’m clearly getting grape and kiwi fruit. Later, it’s a little gluier and more solventy, so dropping a point from the original 7.
4 Dark red, a little muddy. Small persistent beige bready head
6 Full malty taste, slightly almondy. Slight sweet sludginess, maybe this needs 6-12 more months in the bottle. Some of the sludge is liquorice.
3 Smooth palate, crisp carbonation. Bitterness and alcohol tingle on the tongue. Finish initially quite bitter, fades to almost salty liquorice quite quickly after that.
13 not unpleasant, but a little unsophisticated and raw. Bocq can do better.
