COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Previously brewed at DuBocq (Nov 2013)

This traditional Belgian beer finds its origin in 1815 at the time of the battle of Waterloo. Its old fashioned brewing process from malt and hops finely selected gives it a strong, tasty and vigorous character. Delicious fragrance of fresh yeast outlined by scents of fruit. Light bitterness with a touch of caramel and roasted malt. Smooth beer with strong personality yet in harmonious balance.

Bottle with best before date of 01/06/12 into Chimay Trappist glass. Aroma: Strong butterscotch, caramel, dark ripe fruit, slightly floral, some barnyard/belgian yeast scent. This one smells different for sure. Appearance: Turbid brown with an off white head. Beer has a weird looking haze to it I haven’t come across before...kinda like muddy water. Taste: The beer is too cold. :( But I get toasty malts which taste much like a good coffee, butterscotch flavours and some caramel. There’s some barnyard in the taste as well but it doesn’t dominate which is great. Palate: Rich and full bodied. Alcohol isn’t perfectly hidden but it complements the beer’s character nicely since it’s so rich. Overall: I was expecting a crappy beer, glad I gave this a chance as it’s actually pretty well done!

Wat een geweldige dubbel is dit. De mooie schuimkraag, de heerlijke stenen kelk en het bouquette maken deze tot een van mijn favorieten.

Stubby bottle at home, poured into a tulip glass. ABV 8.5% Dark brown colour on the body, tall off-white head, with good retention, leaving minimal lacing behind. Aroma is sweet, caramel, prunes, honey, some fortified wine notes, light alcohol. Taste also of plums and malts, caramel, quite sweet, the alcohol here well hidden, raisins, wine hints, light vanilla. Medium thin body, carbonation is a bit high, sort of sticky on the palate. Unexpectedly good.
