3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle with best before date of 01/06/12 into Chimay Trappist glass.
Aroma: Strong butterscotch, caramel, dark ripe fruit, slightly floral, some barnyard/belgian yeast scent. This one smells different for sure.
Appearance: Turbid brown with an off white head. Beer has a weird looking haze to it I haven’t come across before...kinda like muddy water.
Taste: The beer is too cold. :( But I get toasty malts which taste much like a good coffee, butterscotch flavours and some caramel. There’s some barnyard in the taste as well but it doesn’t dominate which is great.
Palate: Rich and full bodied. Alcohol isn’t perfectly hidden but it complements the beer’s character nicely since it’s so rich.
Overall: I was expecting a crappy beer, glad I gave this a chance as it’s actually pretty well done!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
has changed somewhat now the brewery is operational at the Waterloo battlefield; but still a strong vigorous taste, slightly roast with a touch of caramel... special sugars probably used as in Belgian scotch ales. a lovely beer, very trendy now with the bicentenary!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours nearly clear darkish copper brown with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of caramel malt, with notes of herbs and yeast and touches of hops. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt and fruit, complemented by bitter notes of hops and estery touches. Hints of roast. Bittersweet aftertaste. Lively carbonation. Decent, well-balanced but not mind-blowing.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
’Massieve ale’ commemorating the Battle of Waterloo en served in stone jars. Yellowish white head, clear bronze colour (I insisted to taste this from a transparent recipient, obviously). Weakish aroma, caramel, walnuts, red berries, chocolate bars. Mild caramelly malt taste, subdued sweetness with candi-ish and honeyish sweetness, fruity, slick mouthfeel, chocolatey malts in the end with rather weak hops. A bit one-dimensional and lacking body for this style of ale.
