Previously brewed at DuBocq (Nov 2013)

Waterloo Tripel is brewed on huge amounts of pilsener malt. Aromatic Saazer and Spalter hops are added, but to no further extent than to give it a bitterness equal to a pilsener which gives more room to the beer’s sweetness. The beer is fermented with Du Bocq’s original yeast strain which is responsible for the delicate, spicy expression. After maturation and filtration the beer has a secondary fermentation in the bottle which causes its slight cloudiness.

75 cl bottle, 7.5%. Yellow color, almost clear, enormous expanding white head. Belgian yeast smell with pale malts and decent hops, but not thick or tasty as expected from a tripel, seems like a strong ale instead. Medium bodid, carbonated, extra dry finish. Unimpressive but quite ok.

(Waterloo Tripel 7 Blonde) Stubby bottle 330 ml at home, poured into a tulip. ABV 7.5% Golden orange beer, tall and thick white head, okay retention. Spots of lacing on the glass. Fruity aroma, sugar, apricot. Taste of malts, apricot, sugar, light floral notes, even more fruity on the finish. Medium body, a bit high on the carbonation, nice dryness on the palate. Good.

Bottle (33 cl) from Beer Gusto, Belgium. Shady golden, medium white head. Grainy malt aroma, some subtle fruity aromas with hints of pear, and some peppery spicyness. Medium bodied, medium to high carbonation. Semi dry, low to medium bitterness. Nice with restrained yeast character.

330 ml bottle. Clouded paler orange, lotsa chunks, smaller off-white lasting foam. Fruity peach apricot aroma. Taste is sweet stone fruit, mild pils malt, no bitterness, faint spice and yeast. Softer carbonation, light-medium bodied, low hopped. Tasty and refreshing makes it: LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary)

Slightly hazy appearance with medium head. Typical Belgian ale aromas, slightly yeasty, medium length, quite light for triple style beer.

Ik drink heel graag tripel maar dit was een beetje een teleurstellend biertje voor mij.

Hazy golden colour, big white head which lasts long time. Taste is sweet and fruity, low bitterness. Medium carbonation. Some alcohol in the aftertaste. Overall decent beer but a little too sweet for my taste.

Bottle, 33cl. It’s a hazy golden beer topped by a big, white head leaving some coarse lacings. The aroma is sweetish and fruity with a touch of cellar and perfume. Sweet, white sugar flavor with quite a lot of fruityness. Some bitterness and a herbal, grassy touch. Medium body and a nice carbonation level. Sweet finish. Overall, decent, but it’s too sweet and quite simple. 140724
