Previously brewed at DuBocq (Nov 2013)

Waterloo Tripel is brewed on huge amounts of pilsener malt. Aromatic Saazer and Spalter hops are added, but to no further extent than to give it a bitterness equal to a pilsener which gives more room to the beer’s sweetness. The beer is fermented with Du Bocq’s original yeast strain which is responsible for the delicate, spicy expression. After maturation and filtration the beer has a secondary fermentation in the bottle which causes its slight cloudiness.

0.33 bottle bought at a Chocolateria in downtown Bratislava/Slovakia today. I was curious because I have not seen this Belgian ale anywhere in Bratislava to date. It’s a typical standard Belgian ale, very hoppy and dry in taste. Typical Belgian strong ale aroma, color, head, maybe too much carbonation. Aynway, overall it is tasty!

4-pack given to me by my Belgian father-in-law probably because of its name and label artwork rather than the beer itself, although he does know I’m fond of triples. Really didn’t expect it to be quite so good, especially given its lower ABV. Has a brilliant full-bodied triple taste, nice & fresh with a rich yeast character and a foamy head. Very good indeed.

Bottle. Golden, a small white head. Nose is sweeter than average for the style. Malty. Some spice, not much fruit. Flavour does have a hint of lemon though, lots of pils malt, tripel spice. Lacks the effervescence of the great tripels, but still an enjoyable drink.

75 cl bottle. Yeast at the bottom. Golden clear colour with a nice fluffy head. Nice aroma of yeast, wheat and spices. Nice flavour of yeast, spices wheat and some sweetness. Ends up quite light and mild for a tripel.

bottle @ antwaerps bierhuyske clear blonde/ligt amber coloured, good white foam smell is typical tripel too much carbo? typical tripel , bread, grains, sweet, sugar. another addition to the endless lists of beers i couldnt tell a diffrence between ... at a blind tasting i’d be doubting between like 50 others at this point , that taste just alike .. sigh ..

Bottled. Pours clear golden with a large, white, fluffy and white head. Nose of yeast, some spice, fruit and hops notes. Sweet flavor that ends up with a weak bitterness. Medium bodied, oily text. and lively carb. A fairly good triple.

33 cl. bottle @ home. From Carrefour. BBF 23.11.2014. Bottle says “Quite a Strong Beer” okay… Bottle also claims that this is what the alied soldiers drank during th battle in Waterloo which I do not believe. Pours slightly hazy golden with a creamy white head. Smell is pretty sweet, white bread, white sugar, malts, grassy hops, lots of perfume, bitter hay & spices. Taste is a mixture of sweet white bread, sugar, BE yeast, bitter Saaz-like hops, grass, bitter spices, hay, perfume, citrus, lots of bitter cleaning agent,… Fizzy, pretty run of the mill but the citrus cleaning agent flavours are quite offputing for me personally. Not the best one.
