Previously brewed at DuBocq (Nov 2013)

Waterloo Tripel is brewed on huge amounts of pilsener malt. Aromatic Saazer and Spalter hops are added, but to no further extent than to give it a bitterness equal to a pilsener which gives more room to the beers sweetness. The beer is fermented with Du Bocqs original yeast strain which is responsible for the delicate, spicy expression. After maturation and filtration the beer has a secondary fermentation in the bottle which causes its slight cloudiness.

Bottle@Home. Much maltier than expected from a Triple. Very sweet, light sourish and a hint of veggies/corn in the finish. Not exceptional but drinkable.

33cl bottle. Pours a clear golden with a snowy white head. Nose : fresh, yeasty with a delicate floral notes. Little caramel malt aromas pushed away by overall freshness. Fragaria scents ? Sip : Yes, there is a very nice fruity fragaria like notes. A bit citrus going into sweet pomelo. The body is creamy. Very brief sweet start develops a great citrus/fragaria little sour start followed quickly by appreciable bitter ending. Yes ! Its my kind of beer!

Bottle. Golden, a small white head. Nose is sweeter than average for the style. Malty. Some spice, not much fruit. Flavour does have a hint of lemon though, lots of pils malt, tripel spice. Lacks the effervescence of the great tripels, but still an enjoyable drink.

33 cl bottle from Belga Srk Hza, Bp. Hazy golden coloured brew with a broad pored and medium sized white head, which diminishes completely. Sweet-spicy, fruity smell. Mild fruity aroma with oranges/mandarin followed by grain, herbs and coriander spicyness in the middle, mouthfeels sharp. The finish brings some alcohol, citrus and herbs along, which leaves a long aftertaste behind. Not bad, not bad, but expected a bit more.

33cl bottle from 16th St. Liquor in West Vancouver. Poured murky golden with a nice persistent white head with some lacing. Taste is moderately sweet malt and candy sugar with a slight bitterness. Decent, but not special Belgian triple.
