Bottle @ home. I haven’t seen this in Colorado for a couple of years for some reason- maybe I’ve just overlooked it. Anyways, had to have this shipped in from New York, as I loved it the last time around. Cloudy, darkish golden appearance with a fluffy, off-white head. Pretty citrusy, bready, orange/lemon, Belgian yeasty aroma. A touch tangy, lemon/orange citrusy, cracker, pale malty, a touch musty, fruity yeasty flavor. Not as good as I remember but who knows how long this sucker sat around underneath fluorescent lights.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 onceblind (1349) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 6, 2012
Golden with slight haze, and a very large foamy head. Has a somewhat fruity estery nose, with notes of clementine and pear, with some gentle peppery yeastiness. Taste is perhaps just a little too bready and yeasty, though there is some fruitiness like on the nose: pear, light pineapple, but with an awkward yeastiness and some light buttery blonde malt. The yeast kinda has a funky barn tone and dustiness, that kinda overrides the palate.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 callmemickey (709) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 1, 2012
Reviewed from notes (2007).
A: orange-amber body with a huge white head which creeps down the sides of the glass
S: lemon-yeast-spicy up front.. malty subtle sweetness towards the end
T: Sweet pale malt taste with accents of spice, lemon and a lovely yeasty taste.. hints of alcohol but otherwise well concealed... it’s a solidly balanced beer that is in the next tier in my book down from its evil-brother the St Bernardus Tripel
M: Nice carbonation and smooth, velvety feel makes this a nice beer.
O: Solid, but there are other better tripels out there... this is certainly no slouch though.
