Cask at Smithfield Hotel, Manchester. A chestnut colored beer with no head. The aroma has notes of malt and caramel as well as a touch of butterscotch. The flavor is sweet with noets of malt and butterscotch as well as light notes of roasted malt, leading to a dry caramel finish.

Clear medium to dark brown color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light light heavy malty, roasted, caramel, smoke - peat, licorice notes, medicine light notes. Flavor is moderate to light light heavy sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat to soft. [20090121]

A Mes rate. Cask at the Marble Arch Inn. Very dark mahogany with a thin but solid white head and damn good condition. Rich dark fruity malt. Earthy and dry with a lovely kick of bitterness in the finish. Good fruity hits all round and just jolly tasty. Assertive but gentle. Jolly good stuff... Dog’s arse anyone?
