128 ounce (1 gallon) brewery sealed growler, took a few days to drink it last weekend. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch brown head that didnt stay around for too long. The brew smells like roasted malt, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and some dark fruit. Taste is similar to the aroma, the brew tastes like roasted and burnt/charred malt, bittersweet chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, coffee, and a little bit of dark fruit. The bourbon is certainly noticeable in both the aroma and taste of this beer. However, I think the roasty bitter flavors are stronger than the sweet ones. Mouthfeel is light/medium, its thinner than I expected it to be. Certainly one of the thinner stouts Ive had recently. Its slick and coating, and also has low/moderate carbonation. I think this is a solid overall brew, I liked it.

Sample at the Columbus Winter Beerfest on 01/14/2012: Pours black with a medium thin beige head that dissipates quickly. Short strings of lacing. The nose is bourbon-forward with some dark malts in the background. Rich body with an oaky bourbon character and notes of malt, vanilla and caramel. The finish is somewhat boozy with a black coffee and bourbon aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

On tap at GABF. Pours with a pitch black body and a tan head that stays. Aroma is big time vanilla/vanillin, barrel, alcohol, chocolate, light esters. Some yeasty notes and a bit of green apple. Flavors are very tasty, chocolate, brown sugar, bourbon. Somewhat dry. Boozy and tannic finish.

Had right after the non-barrel aged version GABF 2011. Pours a pure black color with a small beige head. The aroma is dominated by sweet vanilla and bourbon, some dark fruit. The flavor is very nice; super sweet and hot bourbon, vanilla, hot sugary flavors, light roast and dark fruits. Very nice.

Draft sample at UMMO. Pours deep black with a chocolate brown head. Nose is perfumey vanilla and bourbon, Rich chocolate and coffee notes as well. Floral hops really help with the bouquet. On taste, the booze is well placed, not overdone and held in balance. There is a thickness to the mouthfeel with more molasses and chocolate notes. The quality of the barrel is pretty apparent. Nice bitterness to really tie this one together. Good beer.

On tap at Bodega, Columbus. Obviously quite dark. The nice part that sets it apart is the rich tan head that leaves lots of soapy lacing. The aroma is HUGELY bourbony. The beer is, indeed, there but very buried under a slab of bourbon. I passed it over to a non craft friend for a whiff, his eyes rolled back in his head and he tipped back in his chair, crashing into another table. The taste is obviously suppressed under a bourbon dictatorship. The base beer is tasting quite nice but the whole thing tastes like I just tipped the whole barrel back and took a swig. Drinkability is very close to nil, especially this huge god forsaken shaker pint full. A short pour into a snifter would be all anyone would need.
