Bottled. An unclear golden beer with a huge yellowish head. The aroma has notes of brettanomyces, malt, spices, and hops. The flavor is sweet with an acidic edge and notes of malt, caramel, and dusty hops, leading to a bitter finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

bartlebier (463) - Baden-Württemberg, GERMANY - MAY 15, 2013
UPDATED: MAY 16, 2013 33cl bottles - After Kreuzberg’s XPA, bobo word of mouth has travelled by trotinette from one advertising agency to another in Wedding about a certain beer style that is supposed to be cool and a key to instant transatlantic street-beerwisdom, resulting in this first off, crowdfunded and hastily concocted, underbrewed and overstuffed test tube implosion of a beer.
As nobody has entered or commented on the insane amount of conflicting ingredients boasted about on the label, allow me to list:
Malz: Pilsener/Carared/Weizenmalz Hell/Münchner Typ I/Melanoidinmalz (?)/Rauchmalz (!).
Reis: Langkorn.
Hopfen: Herkules, Smaragd, Hallertauer Tradition, Spalter Select, Nelson Sauvin, Styrian Golding, Willamette.
punchline: ABV is 5,2%
Where to start... The nose is the least offensive and even intriguing part: very floral, but unpure flowers, lychee, wild berries, chardonnay grape and undefinable chemical zing. Taste is all over the place, confusing like a bad Fantome but with less focus: delicate floral and slightly grassy German aroma hops clashing with Nelson Sauvin peach & grape and finally obliterated by a not smoked but ash aftertaste. The mouthfeel is that of a cheap Zwickel, watery at best, flushing all aromatic components down in less than a second. Needless to say the long grain rice does not add much. Under all this weight, it remains oddly drinkable as a heavily conflicted hop-raped German Zwickl.
Tastes like: my 16 year old nephew cooking Asian food with too many exotic little spice jars at hand. Also: 3 chefs cluelessly messing about with random hops, dryhopping a Tsingtao, filling each bottle with a waft of Marlboro Light smoke before capping.
If this is the beginning of an IPA craze washing over all burroughs after Moabit, Kreuzberg and Wedding, Berlin might have to brace itself and sit this one out before its watery one-off descendants’ first batches have been sold off. Call to all expat US hipsters with an inkling of what even a macro IPA would taste like, please interfere and airlift some balance and direction into this Wedding PA?

Nice one from berlin with citrus and big hops. Still a but dull and watery but hitting tje points enough for being way above average.

McTapps (1490) - Ruhrgebiet, GERMANY - MAY 1, 2013
Had quite some certain hopes into this beer but it wasn’t as good as expected, but also not as bad as the pre-raters rated. It has got a rich golden colour, a low steady head and crisp body. Nose of light hops. Taste of mild hops, white pepper, coriander, bay leaves and ripe grains. Very easy to drink, quite refreshing and okay. The finish is quite thin and watery though.

Idiosynkrasie (1844) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - MAR 20, 2013
330ml bottle. Cloudy pale golden colour with average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Cautious hoppy aroma, minimally grassy and fruity, a touch of pineapple and grapefruit. Taste is citrusy hoppy, grassy, almost strawy; slightly watery. Nothing wrong with this, but anaemic, only cautiously hopped and moreover too weak on the malty side.

I gotta say I was not impressed by this at all. No aroma at all, too much bitterness and not enough hoppy flavor to balance it. Overall worth trying for a German ipa novelty but I won't buy it again. Besides there are plenty better German IPAs. Bottle filled January 2013, so it was "fresh." ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at Studio 8. Pale orange with a medium head. Aroma is citrus hop. Flavour is an intense hoppy bitter, grapefruit with an even dry bitter finish. Excellent IPA.
