3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Suttree (3765) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - DEC 6, 2010
OK, I rarely say anything is too hoppy, but this wasn’t really like an abbey ale. Reddish copper, with a thin ring of foam Smell sweet and amlty, but the flavor is more like, I dunno, a standard brown ale with some Belgian yeast or something. Tasty, but kind of odd...

Copper with tan head and lace. Light brown sugar and bread on the aroma. Bread brown sugar and Belgian yeast. Medium bodied with good carbonation.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 bubbleflubber (1206) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - NOV 14, 2010
On draught from the brewery, it pours a deep hickory-walnut into the glass with an eggshell head that reduces to a thin ring leaving spotty webbed lacing. Some caramel, brown sugar and hints of farmyard aromas. The flavors are of caramel malt with some cherry aftereffects, lightly toasted brown sugar, and finishing with just a hint of phenols and pepper. A tad unilateral, the body still has some substance and is medium without being cloying. The palate is slightly oily with light notes of carbonation keeping the mouthfeel alive. A decent Abbey nonetheless.

1L bottle-pours a foamy tan head that laces and copper color. Aroma is sweet medium malt-roasty/toffee, secondary earthy hops. Taste is sweet medium/dark malt-cocoa powder/roasty/toffee, secondary earthy hops, yeast, raisin/prune.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Elwood (1834) - Between a rock and a hard place, Virginia, USA - JUN 11, 2010
Serving: 750 ml bottle from Bruisin Ales
It pours a hazy, deep brown color with a creamy, tan head. Decent head retention and good lacing. The nose is big and boozy with notes of ripe fruit, golden raisins, spice, and yeast. The flavor isn’t as bold as the nose. Notes of yeast, boozy fruit, earth and a touch of soap. Medium to rich body with medium to high, slightly aggressive carbonation and a short to medium, malty finish. A pretty decent but not great abbey ale. I would like to try this one again at the brewery.
