4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 nickd717 (3394) - San Francisco, California, USA - FEB 20, 2012
On tap at the brewery. Black in color with a two finger tan head that lasts. Dark chocolate and raspberry aroma, very rich and decadent with some espresso notes. The flavor is awesome. Chocolate-coated raspberries that lend some sweetness and a very mild tartness. Incredibly rich yet well-balanced. Not too full bodied but very smooth with a good level of carbonation. Really great overall; probably the best beer of my Asheville trip.

Draft at the brewery. Black pour with lots of lace. Thick fruity raspberry aroma with coffee and dark chocolate. Flavor is fruity berries with lots of chocolate. Decadent and tasty.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Shag (2439) - Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA - MAR 24, 2011
This poured a pitch black color with a beige head. The aroma contains some charcoal, coffee, and licorice. The flavor is rather bitter with some coffee, chocolate notes, and licorice. Some alcohol in the finish. Overall this was good but not for people who like sweet stouts.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 beernovice39 (2776) - Montana, USA - FEB 9, 2011
Draft at the brewer 9.2% abv. Jet black, light tan head. Scent is malty. Not into the berry hints but it is not overly aggresive. Nice.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a thick tan (nitro) head. Aroma is dominated by the raspberries. Flavor of tart raspberry chocolate truffles and raspberry liquor. Roasty backbone present. Heavy palate. An interesting raspberry imperial stout. The raspberry definitely won in this battle, but the roasted/chocolate notes do come out in the flavor. I would like to see this slightly more balanced.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 phaleslu (4431) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 30, 2009
UPDATED: DEC 1, 2009 Draft at the brewery. Very dark pour, attractive foamy brown head. Roasty coffee vanilla aroma, with hints of raspberry. Light raspberry complements this stout nicely (perhaps aided by the fact I had it on a hot summer day). Very well balanced despite complexity of flavors. Probably the best beer I tried in Asheville.

Black pour with small brown head. Aroma of coffee and roasted beans. Flavor has some cherry and berry hints, very nice finish which belies alcohol content.

Draft at the brewery. Near black pour with dark brown head. Very sweet, roasty, coffee, aroma. Flavor has dark cherry notes (which i later found out is actually raspberry) Hides the abv very well!
