3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Deep copper/red pour. Intense malt sweet aroma. Flavor has a touch of citrus hop character but even more thick malt character and residual sweetness. Very sweet with touches of candied orange bitterness. Funky. Definitely more barleywine than double IPA...

Draft at brewer. Dark orange pour with a beige head. Scent is big pine hops, citrus and caramel. Taste is pine and caramel with an earthy note. Very good DIPA.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown-orange, thick whitish cover. Toffee raisin aroma. Taste is slick, toffee, caramel, raisin, figgy. This is much more barley wine than DIPA, which unless I was drunker than I thought was how it was written on the chalkboard.

Must have local beer from Asheville, NC. Exceptional DIPA. Beautiful reddish-orange beer with a sweet vanilla-white head...gorgeous! Nice sweet citrus and pine flavors with a massive hop-bite finish...oh yum! a stronger cousin to the Iron Rail IPA(also an exceptional ale). This IPA has definitely been workin’ out and may be on steroids! Go to the brewery tasting room, get comfy, eat free peanuts and feed some to Ozzie, the bar’s Australian Shepard(he cracks them & gets out the nut). It don’t get any better than this!

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Murky, amber in color with a one finger white head. Aroma is very hoppy with some fruit in there as well. Oily mouthfeel with a very bitter finish. Tastes like a sweet Scottish ale. Very bitter and strong. Packs a punch. This is basically the Iron Rail IPA but twice as strong in every way. No worth going out of the way to get, stick with the Iron Rail IPA which is an awesome beer.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at Wedge. Pours a hazy medium to deep amber with a thin lasting white head. Aroma is similar to the regular IPA- lots of amarillo- mango, tropical, with some columbus - dankness, resiny- medium sweet honey and caramel malts. Flavor is resinous hops, sweet and fruity hops, peach, mango, pear, green raisin, honey and pine and dankness- a bit too sweet for a DIPA, but overall it is nice.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Brownish orange, with a nice beige head. Huge piney citrusy caramelly nose. Rich and almost decadent palate. Mostly piney bitterness on top of caramel, toffee malty flavors. Perhaps the experience is enhanced by sitting at the brewery and watching trains go by on a crisp Fall afternoon, but I really liked this brew...

A fantastic double IPA from this funky and unassuming (and my personal favorite) local (Asheville) brew pub. If there’s anything I could find fault for it might be that I would wish for just a bit more sweetness in the malt profile to balance the hop abundance--but that is not to suggest this is unbalanced. For a brew pub brew, this is superlative. There’s nothing finer than sitting in Caroliner on the porch of this wonder pub and sipping one or two of these. Just wish they’d let me take home this stuff in a growler!
