Magjayran (1152), Durham, North Carolina, USA Sep 22, 2008 On Tap at the Federal. Yanked off that tap line as soon as people tasted it. Oh No! Infection infection infection! This one is actually very nice to look at. Black with a nice fizzy tan head. Ruby highlights when held to the light. But what the fuck is going on with this beer? You pick up a touch of roasted malt in the aroma but there’s a scary sourness lurking there. Then you taste it. Fuuuuuuuuuuuck that’s bad. Sour and rotten. Trouble is I checked with the owner and the keg had been tapped that day! I sent the beer back. The owner and bartender sampled it as well as some random dude sitting next to me. We all wretched at the horrible sourness. They need to get their shit together down there in Jarvisburg or Manteo or wherever it is they make this. gotohelunc (385), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Sep 14, 2008 Bottle. Very dark brown with almost zero head. I poured it as hard as I could to try to fake a head, but it just wasn’t happening. Absolutely no lacing. Smells of coffee and sourdough. Flavors of bitter coffee, toffee, and yeast. FInishes really sour with a sourness that sticks around long after the beer is gone. I wanted to like this, as I’m glad to be able to get WR beers around here now, but this one wasn’t very impressive. ucusty (1201), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 27, 2008 Dark brown porn with a frothy tan head and some spotty lace. Caramel malts on the nose. Roast, chocolate, and malts. radagast83 (1071), Springfield, Virginia, USA Aug 25, 2008 16.9 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small head. Aroma is caramel malts and slight notes of chocolate I detected. Flavor is roasted, with coca and malts. Overall I thought this was a relatively superb beverage and I’m quite glad one of my co-workers picked this up for me. dkachur (879), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Aug 8, 2008 16.9 oz. bottle from Wine Warehouse. Dark brown pour with a very thin head. Overpowering caramel aroma with some grain and mocha notes. Taste is earthy with fruity esters, caramel and bitter coffee. Finish is a bit acrid and the body is a bit thin. A rollercoaster of a beer.
