3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I’ve had this beer both from a bottle and from the tap (at the brewery in Manteo). There’s nothing like a beer right at the brewery, but the bottled version is good as well. It is nearly black but surprisingly smooth. A lot of flavor, but very little after taste. A great beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottom-fermented dark lager from an American brewpub also brewed under license by Anker Brauerei in Nagold, Germany. Tasted at Delirium Café in Brussels years ago. Aroma of soy sauce, coffee grounds, chocolate, dark fruits, sherry; soft sweetish taste, granular mouthfeel but otherwise thinnish (as expected from a 4.6% ABV lager), mild roasted bitterness in the finish. Seems to hesitate whether it wants to become a Dunkel or a Schwarzbier.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Light toasted flavor. Slight sour aroma that is not really noticeable when you are drinking. Drank this from a bottle from Trio in the OBX of NC. Probably would not get this one again.

Dark brown to amber pour. Roasted and smoky malts in the aroma. Taste adds some caramel and hop bitterness. A little metallic. Mouthfeel was nice. Paired well with smoked boston butt I was eating.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle courtesy of my parents. Pours a rather dark brown, a crimson hue, clear, under a medium to large beige white head. Big roast and cocoa on the nose, malt and sweetness, a touch papery like the other one from them. Medium-bodied, roast, a touch of sweetness, a bit empty and grainy, vague hints of chocolate. A bit of cocoa, nutty.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
Nice deep red hue. Not much by way of aroma, a bit sweet. Not as bitter as I expected, which made me happy. Smoothe, a hint of mocha, I’d drink it again.
