Hints of roasted malts with slight hints of spice. Pours dark amber almost brown with a thick white head. Rich malty flavor, molasses with a little rum, with a creamy finish.

Sep 21, 2007 2006 bottle. Mahogany with ruby highlights; pours with very little head that quickly dissapears completely. Aroma of toasted malt, toffee, nutmeg and cinnamon and some spicy noble hops. Rich and malty with some nice dried fruit notes (e.g., prunes). Spicyness comes through as does bittering for good balance to the heavy malts. Some alcohol in the back. Medium-full bodied with low carbonation. Otherwise, fairly smooth. Tasty beer and a nice winter seasonal. Would be better with more head and a bit more carbonation.

Apr 16, 2007 Bottle - Reddish brown color with a very thin tan head that went away quickly. Alcohol very well hidden. Aroma of sweet malt and spice. Mildly sweet flavor with a bready finish. Nice beer.

The label plainly states "Christmas Beer" and not Doppelbock, but they only brew one Christmas beer and this is it. If I were queried as to if I believe this is a doppelbock or even just a plain ol’ bock, I would have to respond in the immortal words of Dr. Evil from Austin Powers fame: "Rrrriiight." Not buyin’ it. Brown ale, rather? Vienna lager, possibly? Could be either. Contract brewed in Baltimore, MD. Pours a clear mahogany-ruby color with a thin tan head. The head disappeared in no time to absolutely nothing. No ring, no collar, no cap, nothing. Consequently, no lacing. Aromas mainly malty with some "Christmas spice" thrown in: cinammon and nutmeg. But sadly the aroma was too bland for me, even when the beer warmed. The flavor was gentle malt with a hint of spice. A different flavor arises that I’m not sure exactly but I believe it is due to the yeast. A slight sour fruit flair. Moderately carbonated, this one isn’t heavy upon the palate. Fairly crisp ending. Dry and pleasant. Subtle hints of cinnamon linger. Drinkable, yes. Complex, no. Doppelbock....definitely not.
