3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2005 A good example of an authentic hefe. I’m surprised that it beats out franziskaner and some others on the rating scale though. Nice on the palate, initial flavors very citrusy, smooth and well-blended with the more sublte aspects. But I think it finishes weak. It’s just missing a little something.

Cloudy dull orange in the glass. Lively nose with spice and liquered banana skins. Faithfully replays in the mouth; more spice, cloves and banana. Has quite a bold flavour profile and could probably be drunk quite chilled if one wished.

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Have been drinking this for about two years, but thought it was time I judged it. Poured from the bottle into a wheat beer glass, it quickly formed a big dense rocky white head. The body itself, an opaque golden straw. An initial slightly lactic nose, lead to hints of sweet malt, wheat grains and vanilla. On the palate it performed an orchestral piece, with a lot going on at once. Flavours of honey & lemons, bubblegum, citrus fruits and mild clove-like notes. Carbonation bites at the front of the tongue (minor demerit), but is balanced by the big body and foamy, long ’sweet and sour’ aftertaste. A beautiful Hefe Weiss.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice big frothy off-white head which stays thick throughout the drinking experience. Maintains a good orangish/yellow cloudy appearance while fizz rises to the top. Smells strongly of banannas, vanilla, grass and cloves - slightly spiced and citrusy. Very clean taste, with cloves, wheat and warm baked bread being the most discernable characteristics. Finish is light and lemony with hints of bananna.

Bottle - 500ml. Nice hazy golden body topped with a lasting white foamy head. Wonderful yeasty/citrusy aroma with various hints of spices and flowers. Texture is mild and sort of oily. There is also some lively carbonation. Very well balanced taste with a nicely bitter/hoppy finish. Undoubtedly, a top-notch Hefeweizen.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Hefes are a style that do not typically knock my socks off. This one stepped up to the plate and impressed the hell out of me. On draft at Half Time, Poughkeepsie, NY. Pours slighty turbid straw color. Aroma of huge hopcit, malt, wheat, and gigantic bubblegum and banana. The individual flavors intermingled deliciously and naturally, as if they belonged together. No harshness here, just a smooth finish. Marvelous complexity, smoothness, and taste. One of the best hefes I’ve ever had, bar none.
