3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: AUG 24, 2007 Cloudy orange with a thick foamy head. Nice nose - Strong banana and yeast. Bubble gum after taste. My favorite Heffe, although it’s a bit too carbonated. Still, an amazing flavor.

On tap @ Cafe Dwazezka, Amsterdam.
Nice big rocky head. Color is dark hazy orange. Yeasty aroma with malts and lemon.
Banana and citrus flavoured. Spicy. Medium-bodied with a smooth and weathy mouthfeel. Highly refreshing.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml bottle. Caramelly orange in colour. Consistently cloudy. Throws a tall thick and creamy white head that clings to the glass. Very nice to look at. The mandatory banana and clove aroma is there, but there is also a slight sweetness and a a little caramel. A light hop aroma can also be detected. Soft mouthfeel with only a slight prickling feeling from carbonation. Non-offending flavours. Some bread and a little caramel, and perhaps also a little banana, but not really any strong characterful flavours. Instead it is well-balanced and tasty. Little bitterness found throughout. Very gentle and very nice.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
I love this beer. It’s so unbelievably smooth, it’s like drinking velvet. Poors a foggy golden yellow with a thick white head. Unfiltered, which always adds to the appearance. Smells citrousy, tastes refreshing.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours cloudy dark yellow with a fluffy white head. There’s not a whole lot to say about the aroma and flavor except that this is very nearly a perfect German hefeweizen. There’s wheat malt, banana, slight sweetness, moderate yeast, slight sourness, and everything is blended excellently. Dry finish, *just* slightly overcarbonated. I gather than this used to be more unique than it is now, with the proliferation of fairly similar beers, but it’s still an exceptional example of the style. Great on a nice summer day (as it still is here in September, since this is Atlanta).

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Weihenstephaner is my favorite imported German Weissbier.
The color is a beautiful golden orange and the foggy yeast looks bright white instead of just dirty. It also holds a decent head for a while.
Smells like half and half, plums. bananas and wheat. I’m drooling already. I noticed a lot of variation even between bottles in a six pack with this beer, which is unfortunate. This one is right on.
Flavor’s creamy and smooth. Good wheat flavor, but the sweetness blended with the citrus really steals the show. Almost wholesome to the point of my mouth not recognizing it as a beer. This is making me miss my military career in Germany.
Mouth feel is a little too carbonated for the thickness of the beer. That’s about the only miss here.
Weihenstephaner is my go to wietzen, but I must reiterate that I found a terrible inconsistency in the freshness of this beer. If you’re not impressed with the bottle in front of you, try another. This is a sad state of affairs, but the pay off of a perfect Hefe is well worth it. Good luck!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Had on tap with a big slice of lemon. Poured to a nice hazy orange-red, with minimal head or lacing. Aroma was mostly wheat and bread, although some smell may have been overshadowed by the lemon. Taste was again, mostly wheat, bread and yeast, with a hint of clove spice. Finish was a little dry, though all and all, this was a good beer for a warm summer night.
