Pours hazy gold amber with a large and creamy white head. Some lacing. That wonderful banana nose and a touch of spice and malt just please the olfactory senses. Some citrus there as well. The flavor is similiar in the fact there is the banana and the clove. The citrus comes out a bit more and there is a nice bite of bitter hops. The palate is damn refreshing and smooth. Nice fruity finish of banana and citrus with just a touch of bitterness. Great.

Tap. Tall Weihenstephaner glass @ Andy’s Corner Bar. Had side-by-side with a draft of Ayinger Brau-Weiss. Typical cloudy orange-yellow with a big rich white head. Banana nose. Thick sweet coating malt. Lingering flavors. No reason to turn one of these down, but the Ayinger beat this by a nose for overall flavor and impression.

The Weihenstephaner Weissbier.. We all heard about the beer in a Danish sit-com, it was mentioned as the best beer ever, by a geeg in the sit-com serie.
Allthoug it was mentioned more for fun, then it still caught our interesst.. And we just had to find one... But it showed out to be a hard one. It was sold out in our normal beer-import, and we waited and waited, but it never arrived, and now it’s closed. But my friend (Dixen in here) took a trip to Germany and bought it. And we tasted it, it was VERY good, for this moment, it is my favourite right now... It is fresh and fruity, it was like a typical weissbier should be, and it has the traditions from the oldest brewer in the world. It is sweet and has a charming coulour. It is in many ways a women beer, but beers are not made to be enjoyed by women anyway.. :o)

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JUN 13, 2004 It starts with a lofty head that lasts to the end. Wild aromas of sweet wheats and malty goodness cloaked in citrus, bananna and candy treats. The flavor is amazingly balanced with light cloves, nutmeg, almonds, vanilla and esters. The color a is muddled yellow-orange that is of medium cloudiness and no unsightly "floaties" (i liken them to sea monkeys). The sweetness is just noticable, as is apple and paw-paw. This is all tied together with a giddy carbonation that I haven’t experience in other wheats and that lends amazing spirit to the beer. There is no doubting that this is a champion beer. It is a shame that raters bias bigger beers because this is quality through and through. I envision this beer tasting its best after a long day hiking the german country-side admiring the small, simple farms and ancient vineyards. Then stopping in a small village’s square for a festive evening of dancing, feasting and drinking large litres of hefe-weizen.

UPDATED: AUG 14, 2004 Bottle from The Wine Company, Slough. I’m not huge fan of hefeweizens. This and Erdingers are my favourites though. Lacks the nasty clovey/spicy aftertaste that many other german hefes have. Good.

Weird... I thought I had rated this beer. Nose is grainy, yeasty and fruity (banana’s). Hazy, yellow-orange coloured with a lasting head. taste is balanced; grainy, some yeast, fruit (banana’s and citrus)and spices. Refreshing palate.

UPDATED: MAY 14, 2006 Balanced clove and banana nose. Doughy yeast also. Lightly sweet flavor becomes a lightly sweet, lightly acidic finish. Medium-light body, watery texture, soft carbonation. The bottom line is: not full enough (body or flavor) for me to really enjoy it.
