3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cloudy dark brown color, frothy white head. Spicy wheat aroma, but with the typical dunkel aroma, some maltiness. I guess it's like a combination of a weizen and a bock. Bit fruity, spicy and malty flavors. Although this one is nice, i personally prefer normal weizens.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2004 May 03. Dark, muddy brown, massive foamy meringue head, fairly stable. Nose phenolic, less banana-accented than many; I got dates & cherries primarily, medium strength. Flavor initially strongly caramel-sweet, thins out in both the taste and palate rather rapidly. Smooth, dry, rather plain finish. OK, but I'm not going to cry that I can't get it in VT.
December 03. I think I got a better sample this time, seemed much spicier and stronger flavored, interesting gingerbread-lemon accents on the nose, maltier than I remember. Excellent.

The Label on this beer says it is a “Hefeweissbier Dark,” so I presume this is the same beer? Nonetheless, this was a very satisfying beer, I thought it would be a darker wheat beer but it was still very good. This is a very effervescent beer with, a nice two finger white frothy head. This Hefeweissbier Dark has a bit of a bite in the finish, but overall, it needs to be given a try.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very creamy beer, full body and excellent head. Really like this, the German wheats are a whole lot tastier than the Dutch or Belgian whites.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tons of very tiny bubbles, a HUGE, dense, uniform, glossy, off white head. Hazy light brown body. Light and yeasty, some caramel. OH so drinkable. Buttery and soft, but clean and refreshing. Some dry toasted barley near the finish. Clean and crisp, mellow and smooth. Great German Wheat!

UPDATED: APR 1, 2007 German wheat beer is probably my favorite style if I absolutely had to choose one and Weihenstephaner is one of the great breweries of Germany. That said, I find this dark wheat to be exceptional in flavor and quality. Beautiful dark brown with standard huge wheat head of froth. Smell is sweet and malty with a definite yeast presence. Full of wheat flavor that is sweet and malty. Full bodied and ultra smooth on the palate.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
A light brown unclear beer with a fantastic head. The aroma is wheaty and slightly sweet. The flavor is a nice lowkey wheat flavor. It is pretty sweet with no bitterness - just wheat in the aftertaste. A little thin. An OK dunkel hefeweissebier - but not the best I've had.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cloudy brownish hue. Giant beige head. Fruity spicy nose. Turbid carbonation. Starts mellow and sweet. Bananas, cloves, bubblegum in the aftertaste. Light to medium bodied. Very drinkable with great malt flavors. A very nice dunkel.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very nice aromas coming thur---cloves, banana---but not so much in the flavor department. Some spice in the flavor but needed more malt. Pours with a very nice, "ice cream"-like, head. Still, a worthy brew.
