<b>09-Apr-08</b> <i>鸴-ml bottle: BevMo in La Jolla, CA)</i> Muddy amber-brown in color, it’s nearly impossible to see through the beer. It’s topped by two inches of lively heading, though I admit I wasn’t especially careful with the pour. The nose is fruity and tart, lots of cloves and a hint of banana, but not really all the wheaty, so this smells different than the Dunkelweizens I’ve had, and I appreciate the departure. In the flavor, too, there is less emphasis on the bready wheats, and more focus on mild banana, prominent clove and spice, and a moderately chocolaty maltiness. Medium-bodied, cleaner and less heavy on the palate than some others, I find this is an easy-drinking but delicious Dunkelweizen. Whereas most of these beers have had fizzy heads that dissipated rapidly, the long-lasting head here retains a quarter-inch layer atop the beer for most of the session. Overall, this is really enjoyable, one of my favorites of this style.

Dec 1, 2009 On tap at Lunar BrewingCo. and although normally served in a Weizen glass, requested a smaller amount in a Czech-pils glass. Poured a cloudy, amber/brown with modest, off white foam to the head, and some curtainy lacing. The aroma had a tomato juice/V-8 scent to it. Although a touch of the nose carried over, the flavor was closer to style with some graininess, light notes of ripe banana cream, and stronger spice/clove notes. Just a hint of sweetness was evident. The carbonation was good and the body was medium. Not bad except for the unpleasant beginning. Will have to try again down the road.

Nov 30, 2009 500ml poured from a bottle at an Italian restaurant am Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin. Slowly fading off-white head. Cloudy, dark orange body. Smell of ripe fruits. Dark wheat with sweet malts and overripe banana in flavour, added by a spicy touch of cloves. Bitter fruits and notes of yeast to the ending. Quite flavoursome (Berlin 22.11.2009).

Nov 25, 2009 Bottle from Mr Lawrence wine merchants, Brockley. Cloudy brown pour with a lasting off white head. Aromas of smoke, raisins, toffee, chocolate. Flavours of wheat, dark malts, smoke, wood, dark fruits. Finishes smokey and malty.

Nov 24, 2009 Bottle pours cloudy amber with a rocky off-white head. Aroma smells like an oatmeal raisin cookie, with roasted banana and trace amounts of clove. Flavor also shows additonal notes of nuts and smoke. Overall body is light to moderate, creamy, and finishes dry.

Nov 23, 2009 Pours a murky caramel color with a voluminous fluffy off-white head. Aroma is bread crusts, bananas, vanilla, and clove. Flavor is similar, bready with a strong banana note and just enough clove. Mouthfeel is silky and smooth. Another well-crafted Weihenstephaner beer.

Nov 21, 2009 500ml bottle. Pours a cloudy, dark amber. Minimal head that faded quickly. Honey, some cloves, sweet malt, and dried fruits on the nose. Tastes of dried fruits, mild ginger, yeast, walnut. Tastes like it has more alcohol than the 5.3% it states on the bottle.

Nov 20, 2009 500ml Bottle: Aroma of malts, light peat, and overcooked vegetables. Poured light brown/milk chocolate in color with a large, fluffy, rocky, creamy, dense, off-white head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Very sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of yeast, malts, spices, nuts, light burnt caramel, slight banana, slight peat, dark malts, wheat, and hints of bubblegum and smoke. Medium to full body. Tingly texture. Average to lively carbonation. Malt and nut finish.
