It’s topped by two inches of lively heading, though I admit I wasn’t especially careful with the pour. The nose is fruity and tart, lots of cloves and a hint of banana, but not really all the wheaty, so this smells different than the Dunkelweizens I’ve had, and I appreciate the departure. In the flavor, too, there is less emphasis on the bready wheats, and more focus on mild banana, prominent clove and spice, and a moderately chocolaty maltiness. Medium-bodied, cleaner and less heavy on the palate than some others, I find this is an easy-drinking but delicious Dunkelweizen. Whereas most of these beers have had fizzy heads that dissipated rapidly, the long-lasting head here retains a quarter-inch layer atop the beer for most of the session. Overall, this is really enjoyable, one of my favorites of this style.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 1, 2009 On tap at Lunar BrewingCo. and although normally served in a Weizen glass, requested a smaller amount in a Czech-pils glass. Poured a cloudy, amber/brown with modest, off white foam to the head, and some curtainy lacing. The aroma had a tomato juice/V-8 scent to it. Although a touch of the nose carried over, the flavor was closer to style with some graininess, light notes of ripe banana cream, and stronger spice/clove notes. Just a hint of sweetness was evident. The carbonation was good and the body was medium. Not bad except for the unpleasant beginning. Will have to try again down the road. Rune (2807), Tromsø, Norway
