3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: OCT 14, 2005 (Bottle 50 cl) The word "Bock" doesn’t appear anywhere on the label on this beer from the brewery said to be the oldest in the world - but clearly, that’s what it is. Dark and heavy with lots of malts and sweetness, and not really any bitterness. Pleasant and quite characteristic. 301003.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma of freash baked bread just out of he oven. Dark ruby red body when held to light and tan foamy head. Flavor was sweet, slightly bitter and licorice candy. Not overly sweet and not overly bitter. Good Doppelbock.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is a very nice beer - and i think its official that doppelbock is an excellent style. Chocolaty, full of spark and and fizz. A top notch brew.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured a very dark amber, with a thick layer of off white head, that recedes after a few minutes to form a medium ring. Aroma is all prunes, chocolate, and raisins. Some yeast also makes its way through. Lots of malts in this bad boy. So, so malty. Plum is dominate on the palate, as is some grape flavor. Seet with a dry finish. Good stuff. As it warms, more chocolate and sweetness are evident. The alcohol is not noticeable at all.Yum yum.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark red amber color with a good sized head that went down in a short time. The aroma is thick and hearty. It’s pretty full of roasted character, and some earthy sweetness. Flavor is lightly roasted, and sugary sweet. Palate is slightly bitter. This is a really well rounded beer, but not standout.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
07.01.05 500ml bottle. Strange that I’d never heard of or seen this beer before today. Anyway, the pour is dark, beer-bottle brown with ample tan head and not much lacing. Aromas are less sweet than many doppels, caramel, brown sugar, peppery hints, dark pretzel. Flavors follow suit with some bananas foster appearing at the finish before a lightly charred note and salt/pepper grip takes hold of the aftertaste. It’s nicely done if not enchanting. Alcohol is not at all noticable, body is a medium-full, but should be meatier.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
1.9 pt bottle. Fairly standard double bock beer. Not as sweet or thick as Celebrator or Paulanor yet very tasty without the cloyness as this type can be. Personally this seems more like an Aventinus, but that is just me.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Nearly black with a red tint. Has a great head that lasts till the bottom, great lacing all the way down too. Aroma dominated by malt notes such as toffee and caramel. Some slight dark fruits and something which resembles soy sauce on the nose too. The flavour is also dominated by dark malts and some fruits. There were only very slight hops notes in the finish but there was also some spice. Very rich and thick in the mouth. alcohol was detectable but pleasant.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep amber-rust brown colour. Moderate beige head. Delicious roasted malt nose with a little chocolate. Very balanced palate, not too sweet, making it enjoyable to the end. Could drink this all night! A terrific Father’s Day gift and a fine beer to start my rating history!
