A double bock beer that has what it takes. Not just for lovers of strong beer. With a malty aroma and great taste, our Korbinian is a true beer speciality. It goes well with smoked meat and fish as well as wild roasts and fowl.

I only had this about 4 hours ago and I’m finding it hard to remember anything significant about it. Looks like dirty water. Has a nutty and sweet aroma. Flavor kind of reminds me of a Rochefort for some reason, nutty and dirt like. Not chocolatey like a lot of dopplebocks. So-so.

Greasy red lager-snot. Head is sticky for a while then dies leaving only a thin layer. Citrus and raisin in the nose. The atack is clean but not too sharp nothing short of subtle pungency. If there is a flawI can;t find it. Clean doppelbock. Walnuts and a little bit of molasses. In the mouth it rides low...if you know what I mean. the sweetness in the center of your tongue is countered by the bitterness at the sides and back of your tongue from the same substance. Alcohol is only apparent as it sits in place on the tongue. Lots of fresh black cherries. Apricot finish that is neither subtle nor wantonly dry. Excellent . Notice also some history. Corbinian was one of the first evangelists to Bavaria. he started a school and monastery on a hill where a pagan shrine was in Freising. The bear on the label alludes to a story that Corbinian’s horse was killed by a bear and then Corbinian forced the bear to carry the load the horse was carrying. Good beer!

Appearance: Deep dark brown with a wonderful tan head Aroma: First whiff I get malts with the next one it is slightly fruity and some spices Flavor: WOW! I get Caramel, raisins, spices, some chocolate all of which is beautifully balanced with the right amount of bitterness... the alcohol is slightly warming but WOW! Palate: Medium bodied, malty complexity which is not cloying since the dryness keeps everything in check Overall: Definitely worth seeking out... for the oldest brewery the magic is still there

Buying this one was a no brainer to me, especialy considering how good the hefe is. Pours out brown, with a rich smoky smell coming from it. Taste is malty, rich, creamy, and just all around good. One of the better dopplebocks I have had before. Nice one.

UPDATED: MAR 18, 2006 Bottle from Kevin... Happy, biatch?

Pours a lush mahogany with an aroma of molasses and plum. Nice head that leaves a clinging lace. Flavor is bitter molasses with a nice undertone of smooth, sweet jazz. Chuck Mangione is my real father. I don’t know why I wrote that; don’t ask. Free-form writing can kick ass. Palate is thick and coats the tongue well. This beer demands you to spend time with it. Thanks, Kevin. And no, I won’t sleep with you. Ever.

Dark brown color with a thick and fully lasting tan head. Fantastic aroma with hints of raisin, cherry, and brown sugar. Apples, molasses, cherry and some alcohol in the flavor. Gets sweeter and sweeter as it warms. Very enjoyable doppelbock.

There are a lot of bad beers in German, despite the country’s reputation for being master brewers. In fact, some my lowest rating of all time are for German beers. This is NOT one of them. It really shows why German brewers have gained the reputation they have. Starts with a light malty nose with some spice. Dark brown color and a foamy head. Sweet caramelly tastes, berry and chocolate notes in the middle. Like a dunkelbock with some wheat. Cinnamon spicy end. Creamy texture and a full body. Very smooth. Everything is perfectly balanced and the alcohol is in the background, but intensifies everything.

Nice dark red color with a medium frothy head on top. Band aid, light chocolate and nutmeg nose. Smooth and silky texture. A bit alcohol, loads of malt, cinnemon and chocolate in the taste. Caramely. Just a nice tiny bit roasted in the finish. What a goodie! Thanks so much Saarlander for this treasure!
