16.9 oz. brown bottle. No freshness date seen. Poured out a deep chocolate brown, with ruby highlights.
Thick tan colored head faded quickly. Aromas are of roasted Carafa malts, toffee, and yeasty bread. Flavors are of brown sugar, sweet caramel malts, slight bready flavors. Rich mouthfeel, decent body. Finished slightly sweet & roasty.

Pours out a fairly dark brown. It has a thin but pleasing head. This has a lot in common with many of the other dopplebocks I have had. Itís got caramel and malt in the nose and taste. It has a solid roasty prescence. It is suprisingly drinkable for a dopplebock, but seems to lack some of the complexity that this style usually offers. This would be a great pub beer for sure. Weihenstephaner seems to be more concerned with drinkability and smoothness with their other beers, and this one seems to have the same focus. The alcohol is hidden very well and the flavors in the brew make sure to not overpower your palate. A solid effort.

Tap at Toronado. Malt, malt and more malt. Pours very dark with an off white head. Atromas of malts, caramel and raisins. The flavors are pure malt with a hint of caramel. This is probably the best malty beer I have ever tasted. One could say is somewhat one-dimensional in that way but nonetheless there are nuances. The sweetness comes out later, initially there is more of a roasted flavor to it. Very thick and satisfying mouthfeel.Very enjoyable beer.

(07.03.06) One pint, 0.9 oz brown bottle purchased from Bierkraft, Brooklyn, NYC. 7.4% ABV. Lot 5484. Poured clear brown with small off-white head. Malty caramel aroma. Full-bodied dunkles that starts with moderate malt sweetness and dried fruit (prune)/ caramel/toasted malt flavors. Finished with light malt fade. No discernable hop presence. Rich, smooth, and flavorful, this is an excellent malty beer.

Bottle. Rich mahogany-brown body with a medium off-white head. Great rich aroma of caramel, smooth chocolate, rye bread, cookies, and butterscotch. Killer flavour with a superb palate. Cookies, chocolate, caramel, warm alcohol - very well blaanced and not over the top in any way.

Deep, dark brown pour, wonderful sweet aroma. Very smooth to drink, although slightly sweeter than I typically prefer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours dark brown with ruby tinges, and a modest light-tan head that slowly fades with great lacing. Aroma is robust and sweet, mainly of dark cherry, with some fig, malt, cookie dough, rum, molasses, and a hint of licorice. Flavor is also quite sweet, with candied cherry, cookie dough, sweet malt, some vinous character, and miscellaneous other stuff. Finishes just slightly bitter. Smooth, creamy, and non-cloying mouthfeel, although certainly sweet enough to be a dessert beer. Quite good.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep rusty brown, thick lightly tanned head (with great lacing). Rich nose of fig, raisin, and caramel bread, with underlying vinous-like cherry waves. Malty up front with more fig, raisin, cherry bread and soft booze notes. Ends with a light German hop bitterness to keep the malt in check. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, malty finish. Glad I found this one out of the blue. A very nice doppel....
