A double bock beer that has what it takes. Not just for lovers of strong beer. With a malty aroma and great taste, our Korbinian is a true beer speciality. It goes well with smoked meat and fish as well as wild roasts and fowl.

500 ml bottle. Pours a deep brown with a light brown head. Rich, complex, malty nose, somewhat sweet, molasses with hints of tobacco. Flavor is molasses, malt, sweet. Awesome balance achieved with the hops! About the most balanced beer I’ve had to date! As it warms a bit, some toasted flavors shine through, and bit of caramel and coffee. Finish is a touch dry, smooth and clean, leaving a bit of malt to remember it by. Body is a touch thin for a doppelbock, but it is the only tiny fault in a great beer. How can this be so cheap? At under three bucks, a huge bargain!

Nice dark redish brown color poured a nice head out of the bottle. Good lacing thru out. Enjoyed this beer which had a mild malty aroma with a bit of alcohol present. Nutty taste very pleasent and smooth finish.

(500 ml bottle from http://hitimewine.com) Body is the color of birch beer. Head is rich-looking, creamy, biscuit-colored. Good lacing. Aroma is awesome - sweet malt, honey, raisins, molasses, caramel, hay. Dark, rich, sweet doppelbock taste. A little dry. This is excellent. Doesn’t finish quite as well as some of the other doppels I have had, so that is my only complaint.

UPDATED: JUN 25, 2010 A little thin in the mouth for a doppel but great for a dunkel. Beautiful dark brown body with a huge coffee colored head. Good complexity of toasted malt, sour mash, sweet toffee, and licorice. Lightly hopped, but great balance. // Tried again ... great brown body, small tan to coffee brown head, very little lace ... great sweet nose, taste of sweet malts and chocolate milk (!) in perhaps the most chocolate intense chocolate free beer I’ve ever tasted. A little too easy to drink.

Roasted and nutty flavours, almost port-like character. Grassy hops give the needed bitterness. A good beer.

It’s been a long time since I’ve had this, not generally available in northern NJ, so these ratings are approximate. All I remember is that it was good.

I sampled the 500 ml bottle, which yields an impressive dark amber to brown bodied ale with a huge tan cascading head that leaves excellent lacing. Upfront, there is a broad malty aroma with hints of molasses, fresh baked bread and alcohol. The honey sweet palate entry supplies a rich, creamy mouthfeel. Mid-palate features caramel, coffee, raisin and ripe banana. The first-rate low hop finish is decidedly smooth but manages to counterbalance the robust malt body; there is a touch of alcohol. Ausgezeichnet!

Bottled. Dark copper color. Sweet aromas of prunes and toffee. Flavor is a bit sweet as well with notes of prunes, caramel, tobacco and a bit of alcohol.

Pours deep brown with a healthy creamy head. Malty aromas complement the smell of baking bread, with some citrus in the deep background. Alcohol up front, with a lively, but creamy, palate. Lots of light chocolate malts, coffee and dark rye bread. Banana, too. Dry finish. One of the best dopplebocks I’ve had.

Bottle: Poured a dark brown color with a nice tan head. To the nose, aromas of sweet malts, caramel, and raisins noted. Sweet malts found in the flavor also with chocolate and caramel standing out. Medium to full, creamy body. Not overly sweet but very nice.
