A double bock beer that has what it takes. Not just for lovers of strong beer. With a malty aroma and great taste, our Korbinian is a true beer speciality. It goes well with smoked meat and fish as well as wild roasts and fowl.

Weihanstephan’s doesn’t get nearly the attention they deserve. They run a brewing university in Germany, for Chrissake’s. This beer isn’t as chocolatey as the Ayinger Doppelbock, but it’s solid, nonetheless. Nice nose, but would be nicer likely if fresh as opposed to purchased at Spec’s in Houston. Solid flavor. Beautifully dark with garnett highlights. "Starkbier" must be another type of Doppelbock.

(Bue sur place en fût): Biscuit moelleux anisé, caramélisé et empreint de mélasse et dattes. Sa buvabilité est plus que décente pour le genre.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2014 To the ones (like me) that are not big fans of German beers and that think that the rauschbeers are the only ones that could be taken seriously, it’s a quite funny experience drinking a good and old Weihenstephaner. This has a red-brown crystal color and a well defined and mature taste. In the end, the lesson is quite simple: Don’t underestimate the Germans, they can do, of course, excellent beers like this one... ;) [ BA Review @ 10/30/2009 ]

Julie really likes it and gives it a 4. Andy isn't crazy about it. Rich and smooth not spicy or hoppy ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at home. Has a deep, reddish brown colour with a big, light brown, creamy head. Sweet and malty aroma of nuts, leather, caramel, wood, chocolate, coffee and dried fruit. Flavour of dried fruit, leather, wood and fudge. Has a slick mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A malty and sweet doppelbock. Solid.

Good dopplebock. Superspak sees them pleasing him this way, " 500 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/30/2012. Pours crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of apple, pear, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, floral, light pepper, nuttiness, light chocolate, and toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity esters and dark malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big apple, pear, caramel, brown sugar, toast, toffee, brown bread, nuttiness, light chocolate, biscuit, floral, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, toffee, toast, light fruits, brown bread, biscuit, nuttiness, light chocolate, floral, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity of light fruity esters with a big dark malt balance; with big robustness and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent doppelbock! Great complexity and balance of fruity ester and dark malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering."
