A double bock beer that has what it takes. Not just for lovers of strong beer. With a malty aroma and great taste, our Korbinian is a true beer speciality. It goes well with smoked meat and fish as well as wild roasts and fowl.

bottle bought at the Weihenstephaner bottle shop at the brewery in Freising/Germany. Overall a fantastic doppelbock with a lot of malt, caramel, sweetness, some roasted malt aroma and taste. A perfect winter beer!

Served on tap in a chalice glass Appearance – The beer is served a deep brown color with a one finger head of off white foam. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading to leave a good level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is heaviest of a bready toasted malt smell along with a decent showing of some dark fruits of prune and raisin. Along with these aromas are some smells of cocoa, toffee, and caramel. A little bit of grass and some coffee are there as well, giving just a hint of bitterness to an otherwise sweet and roastey malted smelling brew. Taste – The taste begins much crisper then I was anticipating, with a nice roasted malt base and a decent showing of some sweeter flavors of caramel and molasses. As the taste advances the roasted flavors remain rather strong while the initial caramel and molasses lose some ground, but with them being replaced by some light dark fruit flavors of plum and cherry. Some chocolate and a lighter coffee flavor work their way into the taste profile as well, and with a little bit of a grassy and herbal flavor coming to the tongue as well, one is left with a surprisingly crisper, but still quite roasty and sweet flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is slightly thinner and crisper side with a carbonation level that is on the average to slightly higher side. The slightly thinner body and higher carbonation actually work for this beer even though it is rather dark; as the feel really crates a crisp and very easy drinking but highly flavorful brew. Overall – This is a very flavorful doppelbock with a very easy drinking and crisp feel in light of its abv. of 7.4 %. This is one nice drinker and one I will certainly come back to again.

Shared a bottle at Plonk. Clear, dark brown, big malty flavours with little or no hop aromas and a sweetness with hints of chocolate and fruit. My first of the style. Pretty good.

Another in the long list of beers I should work into the rotation more frequently; can’t believe this is the first I’ve had since starting to use RateBeer! Aroma of caramel malt and molasses. Slightly syrupy but less sweet than that sounds.

Head is beige and quite big. A bold looking beer. Aroma has roasted malts, chocolate, toffee and a little bit of syrup. Taste has syrup and toffee sweetness, then lots of roasted malts but there is this slight alcohol that pops up in the end which is rather unpleasant. Medium+ body and medium carbonation.

Greit weizen doppelbock. Soft wheaty body, with a nice taste of smooth caramelised malt, fruity yeast and mild hops. Great.

Appearance is deep brown, opaque, with Reny highlights and a thick tan foam cap. Aroma is bready and roasted malt. No noticeable hop aroma or alcohol. Taste is rich caramel, dark fruit, molasses, and a hint of roasted malt on the back side. Hop bitterness is minimal. Mouthfeel is medium with a decent carbonation and slight alcohol warmth. Finished very malty with no noticeable hop character and leaves a thick caramel malt flavor on the tongue. Seems somewhat subdued and maltier than other doppelbocks, with less of a dark fruit/licorice character
