Flasche (50 cl). - Schwarzbraun, dunkler Schaum. - Antrunk sehr dunkelmalzig aber nur zurückhaltend röstig. Bitterschokolade, Kakao, Lakritz, Holznoten, pikante Säure. Die Malzsüße wirkt nirgends dick. Gut rezent, sehr vollmundig, samtiges Mundgefühl. Im Hintergrund leicht holzige, schwach grasige Herbe. Ausreichend bitterer Nachtrunk.

50cl bottle. Pours dark reddish brown with a fine creamy light beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, caramel, black bread, dark fruits, some spices. Taste is similar with some more roastiness, molasses, light coffee. Oily mouthfeel, light caramel aftertaste, very light bitterness. Light carbonation, medium to full body. Excellent.

Brown coloured beer with a off-white, very firm head. Madium carbonation. The Weizen background of this beerbrand is abundantley clear. The typical creamy taste is there. With a differrent sort of fruitiness (raisins?). Roasted malts and a smooth finish. Good beer, a bit to little character for a doppelbock.

Leaves a very thick lace. Not quite as heavy as a celebrator. Still a good flavor. Dont know enough about the style to compare to others.

50 cl. Pours an abundant creamy and dense beige head, deep brown to black colour, showing some ruby reflexes. Smells toasted and dark malts, caramel, cocoa, bit of dark/dried fruit. Tastes super malty, crystal malts, caramel, raisins, chocolatey; extremly refined, smooth all malt sweetness, nearly no bitterness at all. Average carbonation, almost full bodied, but still quite very drinkable as in the best deutsch tradition. A really nice one !

Pours the color of Coca-Cola with a medium light tan head. Aroma is sweet malty grains and molasses. Taste is super smooth & creamy malts and mellow spices up throughout the palate with almost no aftertaste. Good!

Weihanstephan’s doesn’t get nearly the attention they deserve. They run a brewing university in Germany, for Chrissake’s. This beer isn’t as chocolatey as the Ayinger Doppelbock, but it’s solid, nonetheless. Nice nose, but would be nicer likely if fresh as opposed to purchased at Spec’s in Houston. Solid flavor. Beautifully dark with garnett highlights. "Starkbier" must be another type of Doppelbock.
