A double bock beer that has what it takes. Not just for lovers of strong beer. With a malty aroma and great taste, our Korbinian is a true beer speciality. It goes well with smoked meat and fish as well as wild roasts and fowl.

Bottle from total wine at landmark VA. Not much head and v little aroma. Dark cola color but not opaque. First impression is of sweet raisins and malt w vanilla and caramel. Aftertaste mellows a bit with some herbaceous notes but still sweet w some bitterness coming through. Almost syrupy mouth feel. A bit disappointing. I was expecting more based on overall ratings. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a deep brown with some dark dark amber when held to the light. The off white head is gone in a flash. Faint but pleasant aromas: caramel, bread, floral, dough, hint of vanilla, some cheese. Flavor profile is out of balance and somewhat unremarkable. Bitter and slightly sticky finish. Not my favorite Weihenstephaner.

Pours clear, dark amber with a thick, stable, foamy off-white head. Dark fruity and malty aroma with some chocolate kicks. Nice sweetish nose. Taste is smooth, mild and soft sweetish. Clear sugar notes, caramels, toffees, brown sugar, bananas, bready notes, spices, bit of dark fruits, berries, but still mainly sugary. Maybe a bit too sugary, which diminishes the smoothness a bit... But still it is flavorful, especially due to its roasty touch in combination with the wide range of tastes you can find in this brew. Finish is roasty and sweet with a small warmish kick. The brew is a bit on the thinner side of the palate. Bit watery, yet still a very syrupy and sticky mouthfeel. Carbonation is almost absent. In general this beer was quite a nice one. It’s a bit too sugary to my likings, but it has a nice flavor complexity in combination with some nice roasty touches that makes this easy drinkable doppelbock quite a fine one.

500ml Bottle from Beers of Europe (£2.99) drank of Christmas:
Weihenstephan is definitely one of my favourite brewery’s and personally I don’t think anyone makes a better wheat beer so I was very much looking forward to this one. The beer was a nice one with plenty of malt sweetness and dark fruits coming through, sure it didn’t quite match the brewery’s flagship hefeweizen but it was still a very nice doppelbock with enough going for it to make things interesting. A decent beer well worth picking up but it’s not one of the brewery’s best offerings, mainly because they have already set the bar so high.

Dark brown color with reddish hue, big tan head that quickly disappeared. Aroma of dark fruits, malts, caramel. Taste is the same plus some milk chocolate notes. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Nice and smooth. Excellent.

Bottle poured. Pours a brownish red color with a foamy tan head. Sweet vanilla and cherry aroma with some malt. Flavor is very creamy, and a lot of malt up front. Finishes sweeter with some cherry and light vanilla. Great flavor. Nice balance. Great beer.

Poured from a pint bottle into a tumbler on 01.19.14. A: Black. Nearly opaque. Some lacing. S: Roasty banana bread. T: Lots of malt. Banana bread. Complex. M: Creamy. O: The roasty malt comes in sweet then a slight crusty banana bread takes over. The alcohol is completely hidden. This and Salvator are my favorite doppelbocks.

Pours dark brown with a bare hint of red. Bubbly with a massive foamy and noisy tan head. Aroma is sharp bready malts and yeast. Taste is very smooth - rich malts, darkfruits and baked bread. Very little hop bitterness but a touch in the aftertaste with some warming. Mild carbonation. Excellent and smooth dbock. Among the best of the style.
