3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Color is deep red. Low head retention and some light carbonation. Smells malty and astringent with some stewed fruits. Flavor is malty with a sweet start and an astringent finish. Palate is surprisingly light for such a high gravity beer. Man, I guess I am jaded, but this just seems to be variations on the same theme – a good beer but did not knock my socks off.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown with ruby hue, small but lasting beige creamy head. Aroma is of caramel malt, toffee, toasted bread, bready yeast. Taste is moderate sweet caramel, toffee, nuts, some dark fruit, toast, roasted and sweet bready finish. Alcohol very well hidden, a small amount of acidity in the nose and less in the taste. Medium to full bodied, bit creamy, medium carbonation.

O man, this is one hell of a beer. Malty, rye with Caramel in a balance that’s just delicious. Rich, luscious sweet, but not too much. Great!

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Beer Shop Malvern. Roasted, high ABV, earthy and minty malts totally dominate here. Excellent dynamic. Dark fruit, caramel and roasted barley included. Pretty good stuff.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
0,5 l bottle from bier-deluxe, best before 28/10/2015. Clear, very dark ruby with a medium large, frothy, very slowly diminishing, tan head. Intense aroma of raisins, prunes, molasses and slight hints of chocolate. Sweetish taste of raisins, prunes and molasses, followed by even more sweetness towards the finish. Medium long, chocolatey, minimally bitter finish with a pleasant, gentle alcoholic and warming note. Full body, oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice sipper, but not as special as expected. Still very tasty and pleasant on the palate, but not overly complex.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Brown/ dark red color pour. Off white head rose and retreated to a ring and left behind spotty lacing. Aroma was of molasses, honey, malts, and roast. Taste was of molasses, burnt sugar, roast, and a caramel sweetness. Mild carbonation with a somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Overall, a very good beer, but, the dopplebock style never really works for me.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours deep amber-black from bottle with generous tan head. Malty aroma with hints of chocolate, plums, roasted barley. Tastes sweet, syrupy, toasty with notes of anise; finishes with strong bitterness that brings you back for the next sip. Full bodied, particularly for a lager with light carbonation. A nearly perfect production lager IMHO. Not for mass consumption but great with meals. Beer doesn’t get much better than this.
