COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A double bock beer that has what it takes. Not just for lovers of strong beer. With a malty aroma and great taste, our Korbinian is a true beer speciality. It goes well with smoked meat and fish as well as wild roasts and fowl.

UPDATED: MAR 30, 2012 This is my type of doppelbock. A wheat doppelbock at that. What I am learning about Doppelbocks (in general) is that many places don’t view it the same as what I, Ayinger, Weihenstephaner, Spaten, et al. do. Many so called doppelbocks are nothing more than slightly hearty bocks...if that. This is a great example of how to make a wheat version.

500ml bottle. Pours a dark mahogany color with a tan head and nice lacing. Aroma of malt, bit of caramel sweetness and bit of nut. Taste of roasted malt, bit of caramel sweetness and hint of spice. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Medium body, creamy with a nice malt feel that is well crafted. Enjoyable beer worth checking out

Somewhat different Doppelbock (label just says "dunkles Starkbier") with light beige, creamy, delicate head and dark coppery chestnut colour with ruby hue, clear. Powerful and complex aroma with impressions of coffee grounds, sherry, peat, blueberries, plums, chocolate, leather, cinnamon and cloves but also some oxidation (apparently the bottle has had its best time). Sweetish onset with caramelly and honeyish malt character, rich, drying and become bitterish after the middle with peppery hops, roasted coffee-like bitterness, a somewhat cloying candi sweetness and warming, little bit astringent alcohol. I should probably purchase a younger sample to get a better view on this.
