4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 30, 2012 This is my type of doppelbock. A wheat doppelbock at that. What I am learning about Doppelbocks (in general) is that many places donít view it the same as what I, Ayinger, Weihenstephaner, Spaten, et al. do. Many so called doppelbocks are nothing more than slightly hearty bocks...if that. This is a great example of how to make a wheat version.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Horehound candy color with ruby glints in the light. A huge caramel colored head forms and performs relatively well. A lot of caramel, some prune fruitiness, and quick notes of hard candy on the nose. Full body, light richness, and mild carbonation. A bit of a smoky quality interacts with the caramel and fruit for a bolder gestalt.

4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 20/20
Pours dark, almost black, with abundant tan head.
Low intensity aromas: toast, coffee, iron.
Soft and light, watery and medium lasting. Nice but dull. Apt to drink gallons in a row.

Out of bottle. Despite the bottle being a bit too cold, a very promising and pleasant aroma is there. Pours clear dark with small head. Taste is absolutely great, super-smooth, creamy. It is just so well balanced. My favorite double bock so far.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: MAY 5, 2015 Opaque dark brown. Minimally sized beige head. Pleasantly potent aroma containing notes of chocolate, caramel, malt, dried berries and licorice. Full bodied, silky smooth, and creamy. Absolutely delectable combination of flavours consisting of chocolate, roast, caramel, malt, cherry, licorice, alcohol, and vanilla. Amazingly complex beer.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Wow. No faults here. Perhaps itís too smooth? This miracle beverage pours very deep, pretty mahogany with thin off-white top. The aromas of plum, molasses, and malty goodness are about as good as it gets. Almost donít want to drink it. Yeah right...the same delightful notes carry through into the flavors. The mouthfeel is creamy and perfectly under-carbonated. I could drink this by the gallons. My only conceivable complaint? Could be a little stronger. But, thatís silly.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Dark brown with orange highlights. Nose of chocolate& dark fruits. On the palate figs more chocolate earth with an autumnal sous bois quality. Mealy and rich but not at all overly sweet or heavy. Balanced and supple. Gorgeously beautiful. Love it.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very malt heavy, as to be expected for the style. Flavors of wood, caramel, a small hint of smoke, and coffee. Good beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

Taste is moderate sweet caramel, toffee, nuts, some dark fruit, toast, roasted and sweet bready finish. Alcohol very well hidden, a small amount of acidity in the nose and less in the taste. Medium to full bodied, bit creamy, medium carbonation.
