Bottle: Aroma is citrus and cloves. Pours a transparent pale gold with a nice white head that lasts a minute or so. Not much lacing. Banana is the stronger of the tastes with citrus and cloves in the background. Slight bitter finish without much aftertaste. A very good beer. I’ve been impressed by this brewery so far.

Very light overall. I have had better Kristalweizens. A very light gold color with a creamy, white head. Aroma of grass and slight banana. Taste is light and refreshing with slight orange and vanilla. A little clove spice. Too light.

Every time I try a beer from this brewery I am happy, and this one is no exception. Not quite the outstanding product that the Hefe Weiss is, but a close second. Good balance between yeast and wheat flavors.

Bottled, and my first kristalweizen. Poured a clear golden color with lots of carbonation and a large fluffy white head. The aroma is dominated by cloves, and the flavor was very yeasty with some hints of fruits - bananas, mainly. I liked the hefeweizen way better, but this is interesting.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Typical Weihenstephaner aroma - banana, clove, hints of vanilla. Pale yellow beer, lots of bubbles, thick white foam stand that comes out the top of my weizen glass. Nice light wheat beer taste, plenty of banana and clove, although less full than the unfiltered version. Medium-light body, high carbonation but it doesn't bite. A nice light wheat beer that still has enough character to keep it interesting.

A pale yellow beer with a large white head, which is reatined well. Aroma is fruity - of banana and yeast. The flavor is OK, but very muted. Very light bodied.

Beers seem to be either 'beery', like most american domestics, or nice and sweet, like belgians and a lot of wheat beers. This one surprised me by being a very nice balance between those two styles. At every step, the beer is both at once.

I guess I have to agree with the "castrated wheat" comment in the style desciption. Why filter these beers? Anyway, beer is pale golden in color with a massive egg shell white head that is retained. Aroma smells appropriate, banana, bubblegum, and clove. Flavor has the right characteristics, albeit, in a very muted fashion. I think in the filtering process they filtered out quite a bit of flavor.

UPDATED: SEP 22, 2013 A wonderful aroma of vanilla ice cream coupled with a lemony background. The appearance is clear light and carbonated much like a lager; no head or lacing to speak of. The flavour is full, creamy and extremly clean. Better in my opinion to hefe-weizens.Score 3.4

If you must drink a filtered Hefeweizen, this is the one to drink. It has the most of the good Hefe characteristics left in. Still not the beer that their Dunkelweizen is.
