Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 13, 2005 (Bottle 50 cl) Beautiful pale golden with a very small head. Malty nose, malty flavour with some underlying sweetness. Discreet but far from absent hops in the finish. Very typical Helles. 100605 KAggie97 (2406), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Jun 10, 2005 Nice cloudy yellow with a simple aroma. Taste is a little grassy, with a hint of citrus. Finish needs more ooomph, but otherwise an enjoyable beer. wnhay (722), Princeton, New Jersey, USA May 14, 2005 Sampled on tap. Poured cloudy yellow with a thick white head. Aroma was just grassy and way to simplistic for me. Taste had some citrus hops but nothing more. Very little mouthfeel, just a touch of hops on the palate. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA May 9, 2005 Thick white head, clear yellow. Pure grassy, lager aroma, just a little skunky. Light hops in the taste with just a little malt sweetness. Kinda earthy. Finish is tastless and lacking. MullMan (1080), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA May 8, 2005 "original premium" bottle foamed out like a geyser onto the dinner table, so there was a big drama of taking the table leaves apart to get the hinges cleaned up. in a glass it poured pale yellow and bright hued, tall foamy white head. aroma was faint honey, a little artificial. sour grain aroma too. flavor was slightly sweet, slightly grassy. mild yet astringent finish. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA May 6, 2005 Pours with a slight haze which is not good for a german lager. No head. Slightly sour, malty aroma. The malt flavor that comes through is very good and even though it dominates, the supporting tartness and astringency are what you are left with. Surprisingly unbalanced for a Helles from the "Oldest Brewery In The World." Tejas (693), Dallas, Texas, USA May 5, 2005 Label says "original premium". I don’t guess it matters too much since I won’t be drinking this one again. It’s drinkable but not good enough for another. Oh yeah, I forgot the description. How about thin, weak and grassy? Smells musty too. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA May 2, 2005 Pours light canary with medium white head. Aroma of hopcit, slight astringent sour mash, dusty yeast esters. Tastes malty, with hops and a crisp finish. Nothing great here in complexity or balance, but a good lawnmower beer.
