Labeled as Original Lager. I was very impressed by this. I thought it was a first-rate lager, top of its style, and am rating it accordingly, especially since lagers tend not to get the highest ratings here at RateBeer.

Aug 13, 2008 (Bottle). Iconic "beer" aroma of malt, hops, bread, yeast. Golden yellow in color, with a bright white fluffy head. Flavor is smooth, light sweetness, and a mild hops bite. Smooth finish. Gotta love the idea that this beer has been brewed in essentially the identical way by Weihenstephaner since the year 1040.

Aug 12, 2008 Bottle. Pours clear and golden with thick white head. Light hops and slight fruit to the aroma. Sweet to the tongue, slight bitter at the end. Nice and clean.

Aug 7, 2008 50 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden yellow with a huge white head. Aroma is mild spiced and light hoppy. Flavour is mild caramel sweet and with a light cardboard note. Mild spiced hops and light malt finish.

Jul 20, 2008 Bottle. Clear, bright golden with a pillowy white head. Fresh aroma of tasted grain and bread crust, with some light notes of grass, yeast and lemon zest. Medium bodied with refreshing carbonation. Solid and well-balanced flavour, toasted malts with a good bite of grassy and herbal hops in the finish. Really nice!
