2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: MAR 21, 2011 Bottled 750ml (brewed 071010, Arkadia)
My 1000th rated German beer.
Deep golden honey color, small, almost vanishing white head. Sticky berryish, sweetish and grainy aroma. Full-bodied. Sparkling, active carbonation. Fruity, banana, apple flavor with sticky grassy and grainy ryeish notes. Quite harsh, Belgian yeasty brew. Similar to Leffe 9. Kind of DeuS copy and as good (bad) as DeuS. Quite poor quality/price-ratio (19Ä per bottle).

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
0.75l bottle. Amber body, huge head like a sparkling wine. Aroma and taste of caramel, yeast, floral hops and orange. A bit weaker bodied than what I expected from a belgian dark beer, but itís still very nice.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
It poured a cloudy light orange color with a white head. The aroma was of grain, yeast and a hint of caramel. The taste was similar with fruits, malts and a hint of caramel. It had a bubbly finish. Good stuff.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle thanks to Lajos, via Munich. A real nice Belgian Strong Ale. If you didnít know about this beerís story, you would assume it is a simply another Belgian Strong Ale. The brewers did little to assert their own style and just went with a classic recipe. I love Belgian strong ales and this is another good example, but it was also rather mellow, I guess I just expected something a bit more unique tasting due to the exciting paring of Weihen & Sam. Worth a try, but donít go out of your way.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
A steady pour into my teku glass produces a three finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a bright red/copper color that shows a brilliantly clear, almost metallic, copper-gold hue when held up to the light. The aroma is lightly herbal, has some soft lemon like notes to it, but has an underlying hay like and almost earthy malt character to it, as well as a touch of funky cheesy character.
Dry, somehow a bit tart tasting as well, the beer has a fullness to the body that I wasnít quite expecting, but is still quite light for a beer of this strength. The beer hides its alcohol quite well. Soft hay like grain, chewy cracker like malt notes, and there is just a touch of bitterness here, but really the balance is achieved by the tartness, that really adds another dimension to this beer. There is a touch of soft lemon like character in the finish and maybe a kiss of herbal notes.
This is completely different, it is surprisingly funky, could it possibly be slightly infected, or was all of this intended; the beer has certainly aged for quite some time in my fridge. This is actually quite a bit more interesting than I was expecting.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This is a bottle from 2 years ago mind ou. Poured a semi hazy dark yellow with a white head. Aroam was of yeast, orange peel, lemon, grain and grass. Flavor was midly tart cracked wheat and lemon, with a blend of belgina spice in the back. Interesting and much better than I was expecting.

£18 Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. This pale golden beer pours with a very large white head of foam. It has very rich caramel and toffee flavours, spicy, zesty vanilla notes with a sweet, slight sugary finish.

Aroma of weissbier. Highly carbonated. Good taste, some citrus. Somewhat unrefreshing aftertaste.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dated 2010. Drink by July í11... well, itís June í13.
$20 bottle that my sister brought to a BBQ. Poured this into a crystal wine-like glass.
Appearance: Slightly hazy at the top of the bottle, pretty hazy by the bottom. The color is a mostly yellow sort of look. Pretty nice head, though it doesnít last long. No lacing.
Smell: Kind of Belgian. Sour grapes, mostly.
Taste/feel: I thought the rating here would be higher. The alcohol is nonexistent (being aged 3 years has no doubt helped that) in the flavor, and the sweetness and sourness that the flavor provides is balanced pretty nicely by a subtle bitterness. Itís a lot of sour grape flavors, really. The carbonation was surprisingly high for being as old as it was. I thought this really drank pretty well.
This isnít a beer Iíd drink often, but I most definitely enjoyed it.

Bottle courtesy of Paul. This is a nice straight forward belgian that is not as good as some others out there.
