2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 TBone (9999) - Pori, FINLAND - MAR 16, 2011
UPDATED: MAR 21, 2011 Bottled 750ml (brewed 071010, Arkadia)
My 1000th rated German beer.
Deep golden honey color, small, almost vanishing white head. Sticky berryish, sweetish and grainy aroma. Full-bodied. Sparkling, active carbonation. Fruity, banana, apple flavor with sticky grassy and grainy ryeish notes. Quite harsh, Belgian yeasty brew. Similar to Leffe 9. Kind of DeuS copy and as good (bad) as DeuS. Quite poor quality/price-ratio (19€ per bottle).

750ml bottle. I feel this beer what somewhat of a let down. The aroma was somewhat bland and the flavor was a little too sweet. I expected some type of champagne type of beer, but didn’t get any of that.

The beer pours a clear golden color with a white head. The aroma is very sugary, along with a little bit of butter, wheat and citrus notes. Not sure why, but the aroma reminds me quite a bit of circus peanuts. The flavor is wheat, grain, bubblegum, more circus peanuts, alcohol and some citrus - lemons and oranges. The flavor is very sugary and boozy, so maybe this would benefit from some aging. Medium mouthfeel and a very high, prickly carbonation.
The beer is not bad, but for the $20 price tag and all of the hype surrounding it, I was very disappointed. Overall, the beer is a boozy, sweet mess with a lot of different flavors and aromas that don’t meld well together. I expected more from two world-class breweries. Glad I got to try it, but at an extremely high price point, I will not try it again.

A: The pour is a hazed golden orange/amber color with a huge white head.
S: A big time yeast aroma to this one with a moderate spiciness to it. Hints of butter in the background with bread and pale malts providing the sweetness. A slight peppery note as well as some green apples.
T: Sweet pale malts and bread is most of the flavor profiel here. Some yeastiness and a strong green apple flavor. Definite booze and butter flavors which are quite off-putting. Some popcorn flavor is there, too.
M: Medium in body with a high carbonation.
O: This was all over the place and not exceptional in any way.

Golden honey colored pour. Big white head that falls way faster than I thought it would. No lacing. Creamy aroma of corn, yeast and sugar. Taste is the same. A bit hot. A bit cloying. Not the best thing I’ve had, but it isn’t too bad. Just way too sweet and hot.

This one has an enticing wheaty aroma. I also detect the smell of flowers, even strawberries. Head is off-white and bubbly, while the brew is light amber hinting on the side of orange. The taste is crisp and similar to champagne with a bit more weight to it. There is wheat and citrus to the taste as well. I had hoped for more in the way of taste, but that is all there is to it. The champagne aspect to the brew sticks with you for awhile, quite heavy on the carbonization. The mild burn of which sticks through into the aftertaste. I enjoyed it, but I would have preferred a sixer of something from Sam’s regular lineup.

Clear yellow pour with a bubbly white head. The bubbles rising from the bottom of my Infinium tasting glass are pretty impressive, but decreased with my second pour, and were essentially gone by the third and final one. Head had decent retention and lacing. Sweet and malty smell, perhaps a hint of alcohol. All the taste happens up front. Apples, maybe a bit of a champagne taste, but then it all drops off. It’s really impressive how the taste just, disappears. A bit of a dry aftertaste, but that’s it. A nice hit of carbonation, which also shows with the bubbly pour. Sort of tingly when you drink it. I don’t really taste the alcohol at all. This was one of the lone things I was impressed with.

kind of a mix between an belgian and a wheat beer. it was missing that yeasty flavour of most belgians which was quite disappointing. it hides the alcohol very well (until it warmed up). i hate rating a beer based on price but this is not worth the $15.
