3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2011 bottle. Lightly hazy orange pour with a 3 finger, creamy, off white head that has great retention and leaves some nice layers of semi-lacing that aren’t quite lacing as they slowly meander their way down the inside of the glass as it sits. Aroma is toffee, caramel, loads of figgy dark fruit, some sharp ginger and clove spice, bananas foster, and light spicy hops. Flavor is surprisingly a little tart, vinous and a little sour up front leading to the toffee and caramel maltiness coming through, nice dark fruit, again fig heavy, but raisin seems pretty noticeable as well, green wood, pine shoots, toast, hay, and a little woody vanilla gets stronger as it warms. Medium body with a chewy entry, strong, sharp and blanketing carbonation (much like champagne, but the bubble seems larger), leading to a fairly dry, sharp finish. The carbonation drops off fairly quickly to a pretty pleasant moderate strength, blanketing and somewhat sharp level after a few minutes, but right out of the bottle it is a little oppressive. Pretty good stuff, definitely different, like somebody blended an English Barleywine, Flanders Red, and champagne and aged it in white wine barrels, or something, it’s strange.

Golden yellow looks, really nice head on top and magnificent lacing. Beautiful beer. Aroma has cream, some malts and Belgian yeast. Taste ha lots of malts, some strange milk or cream, yeast and some sweet fruits. Full taste and medium carbonation. A bit strange beer but I liked the flavours.

Drinking this in the afternoon sun, which gives a gorgeous look. Sophisticated aroma. Taste is mature. Like a fine lady. Gentle, but strong body. Oh, lovely. I’d serve this instead of champagne. Biscuits.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
75cl bottle at home. Clear golden with a full white soapy head. Medium to full body with quite some carbonation. Lots of malty sweetness with some bitter tones. Malts, caramel, fruits, biscuit and spices. This was somehow more an imperial pilsner then a Belgian Strong Ale. Altough it was tasty I’ve expected more from this.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750ml corked bottle served in a chalice glass.
A: Pours a clear golden yellow color forming a big bubbled and fizzy white head. Medium retention and some soapy lacings left in the glass.
S: Sweet nose. Strong notes of sweet pale malts and honey. Fruity notes of pear and peach. Caramel and yest. Flowery and a bit citruses hops. A bit boozy and metallic. Bready yeast notes.
T: Follows the nose. Sweet upfront. Strong notes of sweet pale malts, caramel and honey. Fruity notes of pear and peach. Orange zest. Light sweet finish. Light hops bitterness. A bit boozy mouth too. Quite bready for an ale.
M: Heavy creamy and molasses body. Strong carbonation. Honey and bread in the aftertaste.
O: Medium drinkability. A good beer. Nothing compared with the "regular" Weihenstephaners.

1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
For this highly priced beer specialty, I expected a better product. I’ ve tasted Belgian beers which only cost a fraction of this so- called specialty. A hint of mould, combined with a muddy appearance. Thumbs down on this!

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 6/20
Vielen Dank an Martin. Das Bier ist süßlich-scharf, leicht süßlich, etwas klebrig und recht herb-scharf. Unrund, nicht zu süffig. Irgendwie enttäuschend. Vor allem für den Preis...

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
A bright orange-brown coloured beer with a frothy white head. A strong winey aroma along with meaty, caramel, bready, plus a zesty fruitiness. Medium-dry mouthfeel. The taste follows on from the aroma, mouth tingling winey and fruity zestiness is then mellowed by a bready, caramel flavour, that is bolstered by a background meatiness. The finish is long and flavourful.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle, 750mL. Home. A golden orange beer with many bubbles. Big off-white head with a great retention. Aroma of caramel, sugary fruit, roast, spices, light biscuit. Medium warming sweet, light lasting bitter then warming again. Full body, oily texture, good carbonation, sweet warming finish and light herbal bitter. Overall, beautiful bottle and beer, average aroma, too sweet, nearly nauseating. Disappointed. Too expensive for this.
