3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. A chestnut brown coloured beer ith a tall white head which dwindles quite quickly. The aroma has oats, bran and raisins but also a little shampoo. The taste is very nutty with dark fruits and malts. A good Dunkel.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Dark chocolate brown; shows good clarity. Nose isn’t doing much, faint roasted malty notes. A bit flat in the mouth as well; some more malty notes but doesn’t really hit any level of interest. Pleasant enough but there are simple too many better beers at the price.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 19, 2006 Re-rate:- Haven’t had this one for a while, but I found myself up for a session and needed a decent lager to drink. This one came to mind immediately for afford-ability, drinkability and ofcourse reuse-ability of empty brown bottles. Poured into a Weihenstephan stein. Better, dense, rocky tan head formed than my first rate. Held on for the length and left some frosting. The body of beer a ruddy, deep brown and brilliantly clear. Doughy, slightly biscuity, cookie dough and roasted malts greet the nose. No hops. Lightly sweet upfront in the mouth, woody, deeper malts across the palate and drying towards the backwith some lightly roasted and toasted malts finishing it off. Light bodied for style and well charged in carbonation, but not as to hinder things. Not as filling in the stomach as I remember. Not bad, definitely hit the spot.
Yet another nice beer from the Weihenstephan brewery, and a good drop in general. Tasted from the bottle and poured into a tall stem glass, a short soapy tan head formed atop a clear cola brown body. Chocolate and toffee nose with a hint of toasted malt. Light bodied (oddly filling in the stomach) and light in carbonation. Sweet in the mouth, chocolate, toffee, with a balance of bitter roasted grain and burnt sugars in the back. No real hop definition, just a good malty Dunkel that went down a treat. Quite nice!!!

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at the Weihenstephan monastery. Light tan head, carbonation, transparent and good lacing with a reddish brown hue. Malty and caramel aroma. Flavor was malty, caramel, smokey, burnt flavor. Mouthfeel was smooth and thin. Light bodied Dunkel.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
The DM & Hotstuff’s European Honeymoon trip beer number 46. This draft brew from the monastery in Freising Germany poured a medium sized head of finely sized white colored mostly lasting bubbles that left behind an excellent lacing and a carbonated transparent brown colored body. The aroma was mild with brown beer malty notes and the mouth feel was initially tingly with a mild caramel malt bite in its otherwise smooth finish. The flavor was typically like a dunkel, but on the thin side and therefore was not much to behold.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark red beer, very clear. Head collapses quick, some lacing. Demerara sugar and malt aroma. Unfortunately somewhat of a letdown from then on. Watery palate. Flavour lacking in depth and complexity.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: NOV 8, 2004 bright clear mahogany. nice looking beer. tastes like a watered down salvator - rich, sweet, nutty malt and not much else, maybe a bit of herbs. very simple and a bit boring by the end of the glass. not too caramelly which is a plus. needs more toast, or earth, or something. almost too pure.rer8: noticed more of a toasty hint this time. and a fair bit of hop flavour for a dunkel. this is a nice beer. nice full mouthfeel, clean, subtle, good stuff.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Toasty caramel aroma and flavour, some slight licorice and vegemite flavours (very slight), with a touch of brown sugar, slightly salty herbal, grassy hops in the finish, dry-ish, and pleasant to drink.
