COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name tells the story: our dark beer is brewed according to a tradition handed down from generation to generation. An aromatic beer with a malty character. An archetypal Bavarian beer.

Pours darkish amber in colour with a minimal white foam with nice lacing down the glass. Hints of roasted sweetish and doughy malt on the nose. The flavour of this beer is sublime, it is very soft and deliciously malty with very little in the way of hop bitterness, it finishes both slightly sweet at first then dry out a touch. It is well attenuated and not astringent in any way..

Rotbraune Färbung und im Geruch malzig-süß. Dazu ein etwas seltsamer Anflug nach Vergorenem. Geschmacklich malzig mit passender Herbe. Bitterschokoladig. Röstige Noten nach Kaffee im Abgang. Gelungenes und ausgewogenes Dunkel. Nice.Test vom 26.8.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche

Jimthechap (1563) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - AUG 12, 2011
Clear almost russet dark brown with beige head. Good trails of carbonation bubbles. Smells of breadcrusts, flaked chocolate, bark and gorgeous dark malts. While the scent isn’t completely obvious, it is there and it is lovely. A first cooling rush upon drinking and then chocolate, carbonation and a tangy bite as it rushes past the sides of the tongue. Lingering chocolate, cocoa and eclair flavours at the finish, which is subtle and then fades a short while after. I could quite happily drink more of this.

ClubGonzo (3930) - Bergen, NORWAY - JUL 18, 2011
Bottle from Thai supermarket. Deep nutty brown body, medium creamy egg shell-hued head. Nose is raisins, nuts and near-tart tones of roasty malts and hops combined. Taste is strong roasty malt tones with notes of coffee, burnt toast and nuts coming along towards the aftertaste. Nearly tart with accentuated roastiness-and-hops in the finish. A very nice dunkel from Weihenstephaner.

StuffWine (122) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUL 18, 2011
Bottle. Poured brown-red with a big light tan head. Aroma is a pleasant blend of malt, slightly-dark fruit, and sour dough(?). Taste is balance of light sweet/bitter/sour with lightly-toasted bread over it all. Very long clean bitter finish which surprised. The let down was the light/watery body slightly redeemed by soft tight carbonation. Please stop backing down on the flavour to appeal to the casual quoffers - could be so much more.

From the bottle, pours a dark brown with a nice off white creamy head. Some nice spiciness in the aromas with some bready/doughy undertones. Flavour is nicely sweet, malty and some caramel toastiness with a bit of bitter tanginess in the finish. Body is quite light.
