3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Thai supermarket. Deep nutty brown body, medium creamy egg shell-hued head. Nose is raisins, nuts and near-tart tones of roasty malts and hops combined. Taste is strong roasty malt tones with notes of coffee, burnt toast and nuts coming along towards the aftertaste. Nearly tart with accentuated roastiness-and-hops in the finish. A very nice dunkel from Weihenstephaner.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Poured brown-red with a big light tan head. Aroma is a pleasant blend of malt, slightly-dark fruit, and sour dough(?). Taste is balance of light sweet/bitter/sour with lightly-toasted bread over it all. Very long clean bitter finish which surprised. The let down was the light/watery body slightly redeemed by soft tight carbonation. Please stop backing down on the flavour to appeal to the casual quoffers - could be so much more.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Half liter @ Weihenstephaner. This one is an amazing dunkel. It is sweet and malty, but not too much, the hops save it and it turns into an easy-drinker.

Tap at Weihenstephaner am Hackescher Markt in Berlin. Rich mahogany color with a nice frothy head. Aroma is subtle with caramel, walnut, and sweet bread tones. Flavor progresses from that sweet bread to a date and candied chestnut nuttiness, finishing with notes of plum and fig. Great massaging carbonation, medium body. Excellent German beer.
