The name tells the story: our dark beer is brewed according to a tradition handed down from generation to generation. An aromatic beer with a malty character. An archetypal Bavarian beer.

Bottle @ Weihenstephaner, Freising. Clear, dark red brown appearance with a tan head. Fairly mild, a touch fruity, a bit nutty aroma. A bit toasty grainy malty, light fruity cracker flavor. Not bad but a bit disappoint=ing.

Poured a clear brown with red highlights and a thin off-white head. There wasn’t much on the nose. The taste is driven by malts, with some dried fruit and caramel characters coming through. Carbonation is pretty light. The body is solid, but this is very easy drinking. Could definitely go for another.

Tap at Weihenstephaner, Berlin. Pours clear auburn with a rich and creamy, sturdy off-white head. Light toasted malts in the nose with subtle dark fruit notes. Medium sweet flavor with berries, big raisins, some toast, herbal and leafy bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Slightly dirty bitter bite to finish, then sweet raisins, dry toast, and faint caramel. Well balanced. Very solid beer in a lovely setting.

Tap. Beautiful amber with a creamy, lacing, rocky eggshell head. Nose sweet, sticky malt. Bitter, malty, semi-dry taste; toast, light roast, good malt complexity from a simple recipe, goes far without the fruit. Medium-full body, smooth. Lightly bitter aftertaste.

Pours darkish amber in colour with a minimal white foam with nice lacing down the glass. Hints of roasted sweetish and doughy malt on the nose. The flavour of this beer is sublime, it is very soft and deliciously malty with very little in the way of hop bitterness, it finishes both slightly sweet at first then dry out a touch. It is well attenuated and not astringent in any way..
