COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name tells the story: our dark beer is brewed according to a tradition handed down from generation to generation. An aromatic beer with a malty character. An archetypal Bavarian beer.

TheDog (518) - Aarhus, DENMARK - MAR 30, 2010
On tap at Die Kleine Bierstube Århus. Dark amber colour with white head. Aroma and taste of caramel, hops, citrus, berrys and malts. Very nice balance sweet and bitter. A very nice dunkel for sure and very nice colour and apperance.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2010 On-tap. A - Deep copper amber color with an average to slightly below average sized head that is off-white, foamy, and a bit creamy. Decent retention with a nice lace left over. S - A good amount of toasted grainy malts and some caramel and toffee. T - A lot like the smell. A lot of toasted, grainy malt taste upfront make up the base. Also a good amount of caramel and toffee. Hints of some fruit, a bit of apple and some raisin. On the finish is just the slightest taste of some grassy and earthy hops along with some bread taste. M - Somewhere between light and medium body with moderate carbonation. Crisp taste and somewhat smooth. D - Easy to drink beer that is well balanced and has a good amount of malt flavors. Notes: Nice easy to drink beer that is a touch light on flavor and mouthfeel. Good session type of beer, and a solid beer from a very solid brewery.

Caramel with a beige head that fades to just a coat. Nose is mainly toffee with some dried berries. Taste has caramel sweetness and nuts with some roasted notes. Finish has some fruit and (I guess) roasted bitterness. Solid beer.

Marsiblursi (2989) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - MAR 27, 2010
(Bottle) Pours clear mahogany brown. Creamy, off-white to pale sand coloured head. The aroma is dark bready and nutty from the malt alongside earthy and herbal undertones from the hops. Light chocolaty and light caramelly. Maybe some raisins? The malt bill is nice - typical German-ish. The flavour is light sweet and light to medium bitter. The taste is malty, but I prefer my Dunkel a bit more robust. Rather simplistic hop profile. Light metallic. The mouthfeel is clean, almost hard with light to medium carbonation. Earthy and light bready finish. Light to medium bodied. A mediocre beer from a fantastic brewery.

larsga (6120) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAR 21, 2010
Medium beige head. Dark brown body. Dusty caramelly chocolatey aroma with bready notes. Dry-sweetish caramelly dusty roasty taste with rye crisp bread notes. Light body. Dusty mouthfeel. Harmonic and wonderfully clear and vivid. Dry delicate roasty burnt sugar and nuts aftertaste. Excellent! Highly drinkable, yet full of flavour. (0.5l bottle at Steakhouse, Stockholm.)

rand (1250) - SWITZERLAND - MAR 9, 2010
Bottle 50 cl from Bier-Bienne (CH). Light brown with red highlights, sparkling and beige foam medium. Malted flavor, walnut, toffy-chocolate. The taste is sweet but sharp, points of bitterness, chocolate milk, toast. Then finishes in softness with light hints of acidulity and drought. Light and easily digestible.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear, dark brown, with a weak and dissipating head. Aroma is quite promising, yet the flavour doesn’t quite live up to it. It is a little too weak for a dunkel, and has an odd and not entirely pleasant sweet aftertaste. Far from the worst beer I’ve had, but I wouldn’t go out and buy another one.

Bottle. Pours a lovely clear, dark amber with a creamy beige head that lasts a while and leaves plenty of lace. Aroma is of malt, caramel, raisins, figs and chocolate. Flavour is almost identical to the aroma. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and watery with some sweetness lingering on the back palate. As far as dunkels go this is fairly lightweight; it’s still quite pleasant but I couldn’t see myself drinking it often.

Caramel brown, with a small head. Some bread and nuts in the first sniff of aroma. Medium palate, obvious malt and caramel. Quite good with lamb meat. Nice dunkel

Copper/ruby pour with a lovely, albeit rapidly diminishing, head. Grainy and toasted nutty malts present in the aroma as well as some euro hops. Amazingly similar to the pilsner (apart from the darker malts). Same thing with the flavours - it has the same grainy malt and cardboard notes, but whereas these are quite dominant in the pilsner, they are hidden is this beer by the darker malts. Only complaint I have with the mouthfeel is that it’s on the watery side.
