The name tells the story: our dark beer is brewed according to a tradition handed down from generation to generation. An aromatic beer with a malty character. An archetypal Bavarian beer.

Dark brown and small off white head; like a coke. Aroma is quite mild, with brown bread, tomato, cheese, malts. More a focus on drinkability but still enough flavour to satisfy. Pleasant balanced and underwhelming taste. Not a great amount of character yet a fine brew. Great quality for the price, too. (50cl bottle, 1,75 EUR)

Gutes Bier! Pyobon (1060) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - MAY 12, 2011
Bottle. Clear copper with little head. Initially not a lot of aroma, but increased as temperature increased - rich and malty. Medium body with lightly fluffy mouthfeel. Flavour has a light refreshing start that develops into a richer maltiness with dark chocolate notes and a long finish of coffee and some hop bitterness. Overall a nice dark beer - easy to drink but with a lot going on tastewise.

Very dark red body, soft carbonation, pillowy light brown head. Aroma of roasted and burnt malts, caramel, burnt pancakes. Hints of popcorn. Sweet malt flavour, burnt malts, rather watery texture. Very little hops. Dry finish. (draught -guest tap- @ café Samson, Nijmegen)

500 ml bottle in Germany. Deep dark amber color. Clear. Medium lasting creamy beige head. Aroma is chocolate and malt. Flavor is smooth. Slightly roasty and with notes of caramel/chocolate. Has a very soft, light-bitter aftertaste. A very fine dunkel.

0.5l bottle. Clear dark reddy brown, with minimal head. Caramel and bread aroma, with resin hoppyness. Slightly sweet, with light bitterness. Guessed it was 5.2pc, and was spot on.

Palme (3605) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAR 29, 2011
Tap @ Weihenstephaner Resturant. Pours a clear brown body with a small off-white head leaving long lacing down the glass. Nose is strong burned caramel, yeast and floral notes. Low carbonation and medium-bodied. Tastes strong caramel with some grassy and herbal notes. Dominated completely by the lovely caramel-malty flavor and I can sense a light smoky flavor in there as well. Really good!

Maris (1114) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - MAR 19, 2011
From a 500ml bottle on 20/3/2011. Pours a clear dark amber with a decent head. The aroma is very malty, with caramel, toffee and biscuit notes. The flavours are very similar - mountains sweet caramel and toffee malt, with a touch of chocolate. There’s a good dash of bitterness at he back to balance the sweetness of the malt. An enjoyable beer.
