COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name tells the story: our dark beer is brewed according to a tradition handed down from generation to generation. An aromatic beer with a malty character. An archetypal Bavarian beer.

500 ml bottle in Germany. Deep dark amber color. Clear. Medium lasting creamy beige head. Aroma is chocolate and malt. Flavor is smooth. Slightly roasty and with notes of caramel/chocolate. Has a very soft, light-bitter aftertaste. A very fine dunkel.

Half liter @ Weihenstephaner. This one is an amazing dunkel. It is sweet and malty, but not too much, the hops save it and it turns into an easy-drinker.

Crystal clear brown-red colour with nice head and lacing down the glass. This beer is malt, malt, malt. The flavours really open up as the beer warms, with the dark, decocted malt flavour dominating. Hops are barely present. This is a delicious beer, and would almost be the perfect session beer. What lets it down in terms of a rating is that it is one-dimensional. Admittedly, that dimension is fantastic but this isn't the most challenging beer.

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2007 Pours dark tawny in color. Medium beige head, not so good retention. Mild malty aroma, a little bit sweet. Taste is strong malt, a little roastness, and bitter-sweet. Resiny mouthfeel. There’s a little acidity in the aftertaste that makes it very refreshing. A well balanced dunkel. Very good! So bad it is expensive here in Brazil... :( Re-rating: it is a wonderful beer. I’m loving it more and more...

Tap at Weihenstephaner am Hackescher Markt in Berlin. Rich mahogany color with a nice frothy head. Aroma is subtle with caramel, walnut, and sweet bread tones. Flavor progresses from that sweet bread to a date and candied chestnut nuttiness, finishing with notes of plum and fig. Great massaging carbonation, medium body. Excellent German beer.

UPDATED: JAN 10, 2007 Roasted and slightly fruity nose. Dark brown, nice creamy head. Roasted and chocokolate flavors nicely rounded off by aromatic hops. Brilliant member of its style.

UPDATED: JUN 26, 2007 Muito boa cerveja da Stephani. Coloração vinho escuro; espuma densa e presente, coloração ambar. Cheiro gostoso, frutado e adocicado. Ceveja encorpada. Grãos torrados no sabor na medida certa. Levemente adocicada (caramelo) Retrogosto amargo. Melhor que a de trigo. Cerveja de baixa fermentação. Refrescante.

UPDATED: JUL 7, 2008 Aroma: caramel, bread . Appearance: brown, clear. Medium body, lively. A very nice dunkel. I wonder if this beer is actually the same beer as Hofbrau München Dunkel, because it is actually brewed by HB.
