COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name tells the story: our dark beer is brewed according to a tradition handed down from generation to generation. An aromatic beer with a malty character. An archetypal Bavarian beer.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a dark brown with a small head and a malty aroma. The taste is a bit sourish, with malts, dark chocolate (only the bitterness, not the sweetness) and some not-that-sweet fruits. This isn’t a bad beer, but weihenstephaner can do much better

Copper/ruby pour with a lovely, albeit rapidly diminishing, head. Grainy and toasted nutty malts present in the aroma as well as some euro hops. Amazingly similar to the pilsner (apart from the darker malts). Same thing with the flavours - it has the same grainy malt and cardboard notes, but whereas these are quite dominant in the pilsner, they are hidden is this beer by the darker malts. Only complaint I have with the mouthfeel is that it’s on the watery side.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear, dark brown, with a weak and dissipating head. Aroma is quite promising, yet the flavour doesn’t quite live up to it. It is a little too weak for a dunkel, and has an odd and not entirely pleasant sweet aftertaste. Far from the worst beer I’ve had, but I wouldn’t go out and buy another one.

A really malt heavy dunkel. Lots of caramel and biscuit. A bit too heavy for me, but I could see it working well in the cooler months in Europe.

Robust head on a cola-like liquid, looks great. Chocolate malt aroma. Light roasted malt flavour, but not strong enough. Also a bit thin.

The DM & Hotstuff’s European Honeymoon trip beer number 46. This draft brew from the monastery in Freising Germany poured a medium sized head of finely sized white colored mostly lasting bubbles that left behind an excellent lacing and a carbonated transparent brown colored body. The aroma was mild with brown beer malty notes and the mouth feel was initially tingly with a mild caramel malt bite in its otherwise smooth finish. The flavor was typically like a dunkel, but on the thin side and therefore was not much to behold.

Bottle. Dark copper. Nose has malts, flowers and syrup. Small head, disappears completely. Flavor is slightly burnt, dry, no aftertaste. Some lingering bitterness and sourness. Very easy, a bit too easy maybe,

50cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Clear light brown colour, creamy off-white head. Faint aroma of caramel, malts and a hint of oranges. Flavour is light roasted malts, caramel, slightly dry finish. Very light flavours. Highly drinkable, but unmemorable.

50cl bottle Reddish brown, moderate off-white head. Bready malt, raisins. Slight sweetness with a light bitter finish. Thin body. Good beer, but left me a bit disappointed.
