COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name tells the story: our dark beer is brewed according to a tradition handed down from generation to generation. An aromatic beer with a malty character. An archetypal Bavarian beer.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2010 On-tap. A - Deep copper amber color with an average to slightly below average sized head that is off-white, foamy, and a bit creamy. Decent retention with a nice lace left over. S - A good amount of toasted grainy malts and some caramel and toffee. T - A lot like the smell. A lot of toasted, grainy malt taste upfront make up the base. Also a good amount of caramel and toffee. Hints of some fruit, a bit of apple and some raisin. On the finish is just the slightest taste of some grassy and earthy hops along with some bread taste. M - Somewhere between light and medium body with moderate carbonation. Crisp taste and somewhat smooth. D - Easy to drink beer that is well balanced and has a good amount of malt flavors. Notes: Nice easy to drink beer that is a touch light on flavor and mouthfeel. Good session type of beer, and a solid beer from a very solid brewery.

Dark brown and small off white head; like a coke. Aroma is quite mild, with brown bread, tomato, cheese, malts. More a focus on drinkability but still enough flavour to satisfy. Pleasant balanced and underwhelming taste. Not a great amount of character yet a fine brew. Great quality for the price, too. (50cl bottle, 1,75 EUR)

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2007 Bottled, blind tasting session, re-rate: This beer might have changed or I was so wrong when I rated it last time. It’s a beautiful very much roasted malty Dunkel. I’d swear it’s a good German Bock during the tasting. Sweet, light bitter, toffee. Very good. Bottled, Dec ’03, 2.5: Cola and light chocolat aroma. Redish brown color, light brown head, fair lace. The start is cola and light roasted, but soon it gets more roasted and bitter. It finishes bitter roasted. Less than medium full body.

(Bottle 50 cl) Dark brown beer with an orange-red tone and a small, discreet head. Very pronounced roasted and almost caramel character which is well balanced by a good, dry bitterness. Very nice Dunkel. 260504

Gutes Bier! Bottle from Thai supermarket. Deep nutty brown body, medium creamy egg shell-hued head. Nose is raisins, nuts and near-tart tones of roasty malts and hops combined. Taste is strong roasty malt tones with notes of coffee, burnt toast and nuts coming along towards the aftertaste. Nearly tart with accentuated roastiness-and-hops in the finish. A very nice dunkel from Weihenstephaner.

Rotbraune Färbung und im Geruch malzig-süß. Dazu ein etwas seltsamer Anflug nach Vergorenem. Geschmacklich malzig mit passender Herbe. Bitterschokoladig. Röstige Noten nach Kaffee im Abgang. Gelungenes und ausgewogenes Dunkel. Nice.Test vom 26.8.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche

Pours darkish amber in colour with a minimal white foam with nice lacing down the glass. Hints of roasted sweetish and doughy malt on the nose. The flavour of this beer is sublime, it is very soft and deliciously malty with very little in the way of hop bitterness, it finishes both slightly sweet at first then dry out a touch. It is well attenuated and not astringent in any way..

Tap at Weihenstephaner, Berlin. Pours clear auburn with a rich and creamy, sturdy off-white head. Light toasted malts in the nose with subtle dark fruit notes. Medium sweet flavor with berries, big raisins, some toast, herbal and leafy bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Slightly dirty bitter bite to finish, then sweet raisins, dry toast, and faint caramel. Well balanced. Very solid beer in a lovely setting.
