3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 pintbypint (1481) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 12, 2012
500ml brown bottle. Golden hazy pour. White head which flares up impressivley upon first pour, but settles to a thin creamy ring and leaves little to no lace in the glass. Nose has lots of yeast - cloves and bananas esters. Taste has some soft lemon and clove spice upfront with some sweetness, big wheaty middle. Finish has a hint of hopping, light spiciness and ends fairly dry. There is a slight perception of alcohol, but pretty laid back for 7.7% abv. Soft and creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied. Overall this was an enjoyable brew with all the usual weizenbock characteristics present. It’s certainly not as complex or "big" as others I’ve had in this style, but I think this is a beer I might pick up from time to time. A good value at under 5 bucks a bottle.

50cl bottle. Murky golden colour with a large, frothy, creamy white head. Aroma is moderate banana, sweet, and moderate malty. Flavour is fruity, slightly citrus with a final moderate bittery with an average duration. Dense on palate. Carbonation is low to medium. Texture is oily. Body is medium to high.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ferfie (175) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 11, 2012
Pours a cloudy golden straw colour with a bright thick foamy head and great looking stream of carbonation. Smell is banana, clove, lemon, and quite a bit of bubblegum. Taste is pretty forward with the bubble gum. There’s a little bit of clove spiciness in there, but it’s overshadowed by the gum-banana ester. The lemon kind of makes its way in too; it’s not much different tasting than it smells. There’s a little bit of a doughy sweetness present, that oomph’s it up from being too light. There’s no alcohol presence whatsoever. The mouth feel is medium; it almost has a fluffy feel to it with the constant but smooth carbonation. The finish is fruit esters and a little bit of spice. It really doesn’t taste all that different from the regular hefeweissbier, but the body of it is just a step higher I think.

16.9 fl oz bottle, $4 from BellaVino. Half-hazy faded yellow color. A very nice one-finger amount of persisting foamy white head. Really big body, pronounced, but smooth and fine carbonation. Spicy clove taste on a malty wheat base. Citrus peel. Kind of sour and acidity. After sampling a few weizenbocks from lesser-known breweries and really enjoying them, I’m disappointed by this offering from Weihenstephaner. Decent, but not nearly as drinkable or tasty as others I’ve tried.

Sunny color, slightly hazy, with massive foamy white head. Heady Banana cream pie on the first whiff, followed by dried wheat. On the palate, very nice dried wheat, and banana, with a hint of bubble gum. An amazing, amazing beer.
