3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.7%. Very pale yellow colour, hazy, with a huge white head. Much paler than any other weizenbock I’ve had. Lovely typical sweetish hefeweizen aroma with notes of ripe bananas, cloves and bubblegum. The flavour is sweet and fruity, but still fairly light bodied for its strength. Moderate notes of cloves, very moderate hops. A very different character compared to e.g. Schneider Aventinus, but nice enough to drink.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
appearance: cloudy golden orange with 2 finger white head and good amount of tiny bubbles that keep the head going, although the head pretty quickly dissipates to about half a finger. minimal lacing.
aroma: bready with dried fruit (maybe figs?). very nice.
taste: very good-- lightly sweet; lightly bitter,
palate: fizzy carbonation, medium body; excellent crisp finish with some extra sweetness at the very end.
overall-- very good beer. will be having this one again for sure. the balance of the taste and crisp finish is great.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted 6/22/10. 500ml bottle. Hazy and golden with yellow highlights. Layer of white head. Aromas of mild caramel and citrus with a touch banana esters. Medium bodied with a tart effervescence and a bright citrus note. Estery undertones with nuances of strawberries and raspberries. Bright carbonation. Banana yeast notes that blend very nicely between the caramel and fruity flavors. Toasty caramel lightly roasted malts. Lotta flavor with a sticky cloying finish. Totally Solid brew!

Pours up flat with no head and no aroma. Has a lot of flavor, though, hint of fruit but bolder, with a great body.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a yellow orange with decently large bubbly white head. Aromas of banana and clove with maybe hits of a doughy yeast and bready wheat slight spice as well possibly nutmeg? Taste is delicious! Big emphasis on the yeasty fruity esters with spices coming into play followed by a wonderful warming sweetness. The beer is perfectly carbonated leaving for a clean crisp refreshing finish. Medium bodied but has a smooth texture to it. Overall a wonderful beer for a warm Sunday afternoon!

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma: Bananas and cloves are the main scents with a very big emphasis on the fruit. There is a slight yeast scent blended in there and maybe even a bit nutmeg to add to the complexity.
Appearance: I gave the beer a vigorous pour and there was initially a large, rocky and abundant head but that faded quickly and my glass is left with a solid layer of frothy foam. The color is hazy straw/ golden. The beer is not so hazy that I can’t watch some bubbles stream to the top and replenish the head though. The head is a bit of a disappointment since I do expect a bit more from a German Weizen, but the fact that it is a bock may have something to do with it. I love the lightness in color though. I’m drinking the beer from my Aventinus glass and the difference in color could not be more striking between the two beers of similar style.
Taste/Palate: Very full of esters with big up front yeast and fruit. This bock is rich, hearty and sweet feeling with residual sugar throughout. The beer is not cloying though due to the amazing carbonation and acidity with really washes my mouth clean of any sugar feeling, leaves me refreshed and my saliva glads anticipating the next sip. The label says we have a 7.7% beer here and I’m hear to say that none of that big alcohol shines through. If I didn’t know better I would have thought this beer to be a very full and rich hefeweizen with robust character. After a while the banana fades into a fruit smoothie with oranges and spice.
Overall: I kept thinking about brunch tomorrow and how this would be a great substitute for the omnipresent mimosa. The bock is lively and rich which would be an outstanding pair to breakfast foods and there’s just enough alcohol to get your Sunday morning juices flowing.

Bevuta in bottiglia al Fondo di Recco (GE). Colore tra il dorato e l’ambrato, schiuma solidissima, sentori tipici da weizen, con piů corpo e piů alcool. Un buon esemplare di weizenbock
