cking (1012), North Canton, Ohio, USA Jan 27, 2009 Survivorman is in the Outback and I’m sipping on this Vitus, good deal. Cloudy, dark gold pour with a large, lasting white head. Strings of lacing decorate the glass. Ripe banana aroma with orange and lemon accents. Strong yeast scent coupled by mild spice and brown sugar. Sweet and musty, this beer is lighter in body than expected and has a noticeable kick. Clean mouth feel and drinks easy for it’s strength. It’s an amped up hefe with big banana flavor and a touch of caramel. A hint of clove and prominent yeast flavors. Dry and firm, it’s a nice offering. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jan 26, 2009 Appearance: Pours a hazy, pale gold body capped with a thin, fine, white head.
Smell: Crisp wheat nose with fine notes of banana juice, clove spice, citrus, a small handful of cracker crumbs, and a fourth of a Vanilla Tootsie Roll.
Taste: Sweet, tangy wheat malts start, followed by a drop or two of vanilla and a lemony citrus character. Plenty of fresh banana, top shelf bubblegum, and coriander. Even some apple begins the develop. Light spicy hops and bitterness. Lingering tanginess and no more than the faintest hint of alcohol on the drying finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-high, lively carbonation, yet there’s still some creaminess to the mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Recommended. An expertly crafted expression of wheat. It’s tasty and really grows on you more and more with every sip. Maybe that UGADawgGuy is onto something... agl108 (503), Manayunk, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 24, 2009 16.9 oz. bottle at Flat Rock Saloon. Poured cloudy yellowish orange with thick white head. Sweet banana, vanilla flavor. Surprisingly nice. blackbock (34), Australia Jan 23, 2009 Bottle.
Pale colour, probably the only weak point this beer has is its slightly cloudy insipid appearance.
The flavour is another story altogether, despite its 7.7% abv. there is no alcohol warming, a sweet vanilla, banana, taste.
Mmmmmmm this is what it’s all about! Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Jan 23, 2009 Layers of banana, vanilla, clove and spice that has a complexity and mouth feel that is uncommon for the style. Intensely sweet, but strongly balanced and flavored. Nose showcases typical weisse notes. Light golden colored with a filmy white head. Stunning wheat ale. rds (224), USA Jan 23, 2009 Updated: Oct 3, 2009Cloudy golden brew with an ultra-white, utra-thick head, nice wheat scent, and a clean, lightly spiced flavor. Real fine hybrid style template. Skidds (252), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Jan 17, 2009 Tasted, looked, and smelled pretty much the same as the Hefeweizen. However it was a bit sweeter and you could mildly taste the alcohol at the end. Another winner from Weihenstephaner arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Jan 16, 2009 Nice cloudy pale yellow color, healthy head. Smells of banana and hefeweizen. The flavor is nice, cloves, citrus, lemony, very interesting. I don;t know much about German beers or weizenbocks but this was quite good and I’d like another bottle to investigate further.
