3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
It poured a hazy yellow/orange and initially leaves a big three inch white foamy head in my weizen glass. The head does eventually die after five minutes. The very hazy yellow/orange body does show some light slowly moving carbonation. The smell has the clove up front with the esters powerfully backing it up. Some lemon comes out as well. As the beer warms, it gets a bit more peppery. The taste is sweet yet peppery at different times. It comes across pretty smooth in the taste. The palate is about a medium and initially sharp cutting my tongue like a knife. Fortunately, as the beer warms, it smoothes out a bit. This is not exactly a sessionable beer, a one and done bomber, though the alcohol isn’t tasted, it gently gets felt after a good hour. There is a slight sticky aftertaste and finish. Overall, this is good for its style and good for me.

I am a newcomer to Weissbieren. And am hooked. Banana and cloves seem to be the most often used deScriptors and Vitus is not lacking in that. I find it very similar to Weihenstephaner’s other Weissbier, but only with slightly higher alcohol content. And for the same price where I shop! It’s a no brainer! Great beer and it will be a regular for me.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma of wheat, banana, fresh malt, clove, vanilla and yeast. Pours opaque light golden liquid with a very soapy big white head. Sweet taste of wheat, banana, hay, malt, yeast, resin and a light alcohol undertone. Full body with a creamy, smooth, very malty texture, soft carbonation and a sweet finish, very drinkable. This has all the typical flavour notes of a Weizenbier, but somehow it feels much smoother and cleaner and just overall well-rounded. The alcohol is not astringent at all but rather blends in and counters the sweetness a little bit.

Botella 50 cl.

Testes, nagyon finom, a magas alkohol ellenére frissítő sör

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, 330ml. Pours hazy, light yellow-gold with a huge creamy white head. Strong scent of yeast, wheat and some sour citrus. Mouth feel is slightly creamy with medium body and medium carbonation. Tastes quite sweet with some acidic-sour taste and almost none bitterness. Flavors of yeast, bread, warm spices, citrus, clove, sour-fermentation, light caramel malt, banana, mild alcoholic flavor. Complex, crisp, full flavored, but not heavy, best cold. Nice summery beer without being boring. Slightly heavy.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Aroma: Banana, vanilla, clove, white bread, dried fruits, lemon.
Mouthfeel: full-body, chewy with moderate carbonization.
Taste: banana, white bread, a bit spicy. Moderate acidity, bitterness and sweetness make the taste round. Warmy feeling of higher alcohols make this beer a good companion for a cold winter night in front of fireplace =)
Overall impression: Very sophisticated, well-ballanced strong german wheet beer with a longlasting aftertaste.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Originally rated on 9/4/08. Vitus poured a hazy yellow body, with decent carbonation that gave it a thick head; which left spotty laceing. Aromas of pears and banana, flavors of cloves, banana and wheat. Alcohol was also present, but for it being listed at 7.7% it was well hidden. Its like a ’heavy’ hefeweizen in all aspects, a well brewed beer thats worth a try.
