2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: NOV 28, 2011 Draught at burger. Add me to the camps that didn’t really understand this one. Looks like a wit, smells like a hoppy Belgian with a weird fruitiness, and isn’t all that hoppy in the mouth. Could have been a little old but the flavors just seemed a little discordant, not really overtly oxidized. Not something I would get again and I love almost every other beer from Weihenstephan.

In short: As name suggests. An classic german hefeweizen (bananas and friends) with the fruity hopping cranked up like an IPA. Very good.
How: Tap at Chimera, Oviedo Spain.
The look: Cloudy Yellow - blonde body topped by a persistent medium white head.
In long: The strong nose is enormously fruity with banana esters mixing with tropical fruity hops and even some “pleasant” cat urine that I often get from Citra hops. Medium size body with a well leveled carbonation creating a very nice clean mouthfeel which was as expected considering the brewery. Taste is more of the same. A polished true german hefe like german breweries make so easily. This base hefe is generously hopped with what tasted to me new trendy hops with grassy and tropical fruits flavors even if description says it uses noble Bavarian hops. Whatever they used I like. A rating transcribed from hand-written notes, because real beer geeks always drink beers with our notepad in hands and have sex with our fanny pack on.

These are the experiments I like. Wheaty body, like a German weizener. With some delicious fruity hops. Good beer.

On tap at The Burrow. Rating from December 2013. Pale straw colour makes you think this beer has no flavour bug it is quite the opposite.

Draught @ Irish Pub St. Michael, Oulu.
Hazy yellow beer and a white head. Fruity aroma ish fresh, floral, yeasty and hoppy. Flavour is wheat malts, tropical fruits, quite dry and hoppy. Bitterness not on a very high level. I like the regular Weihenstephaner Hefe more than this.

UPDATED: APR 16, 2014 Re-rate 2014-02-21, tap @ Artturi.
Hazy yellowish orange beer with a big white head. Aroma has sweet banana, bubblegum and sour citrus. Flavor is dry and sour with citrus and bubblegum. Long finish with more bitterness than in hefeweizens typically. Thin palate with high carbonation. Comes out watery at times.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
(Tasting sample at Beer Cartel) Hazy yellow with big white head. Very pleasant typical German wheat beer aroma with banana ester and little evidence of hops. Light body with lively carbonation. Good flavour; to me it started off traditional wheat beer, light and tangy, and developed some good elegant hoppy bitterness in the finish, unusual for the style. A nice beer - the variation works well.
