Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass light, nice head. Smokey aroma. Starts malty-spicy, quite smokey. More and more soapy-moldy, finish a bit unbalanced. I really like dark smoked beers more.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 TEJA (707) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JAN 5, 2012
Ungespundet at Akkurat. White lasting head with rather big bubbles. Yellow almoslt light golden color with just atiny clowdyness. Nice smokey aroma that resembles Schlenkerla. The smoke is also inthe taste but not as strong as in the aroma. Medium and clearly present bitterness and a litlesweet finnish from ligght caramell malt that takes down the overall grade of the beer.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Ernest (5113) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 23, 2011
Bottle.
Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting.
Body is light brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread, caramel, nuts), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a note of smoked meat.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation.
Quite a nice rauchbier, actually...nice malt character and a nice meaty smoke. Really delicious start to a fun trip.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 ogreface (826) - Budapest, HUNGARY - DEC 8, 2011
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 TAR (2214) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - DEC 6, 2011
Bottle, Purchased at Landbierparadies in Nurnberg, Best Before 4/20/12, consumed in early November: Golden-hued amber. Pasty off-white head. Exquisite saliva-inducing aromatics of browned biscuit, honey-kissed hay, toasted bread and toffee. Explosively tangy, salty, mineralic rauchmalt profile. Fluffy carbonation. Snappy and brightly mineralic with a spicy anise-tinged progression of hops buried within the multilayered malt core which showcases a vivid medley of cookie, toasted bread and biscuit. As palate-scrubbing minerals emerge, a dry earthen snap augments the quaffable quality, though beneath the crispness is a deeply satiating succulence that resounds. Delicate and superbly placed ripe-plum acid bolsters the already exceptionally juicy body. Exemplary cleanliness, all around. Artful contrast between a chewy leather character and faint ashen dryness lends further delight. Closes with a flourish of dryness though perpetually supple with a flowery and spicy hop interplay capped with lengthy clean smoke. An extraordinary rauchbier with a fully enveloping smokiness that is accompanied by a dizzying array of finespun intricacies. No bells and whistles here, rather just a very traditional rendition that does everything extremely well. Clean, clean, clean!
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BeerViking (847) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 1, 2011
50cl bottle bought in Bavaria, pours a dark gold with a very faint haze and a big but fast-settling white head. Wood smoke plus a little nuts and ham on the nose, malty and slightly sweet on the palate but with a nice balancing smokiness and bitterness. There’s a little peach in there, a very faint touch of ham toastie, a little dry hay, and then a lightly smoky but dry-bitter finish.
